Giving Girls the Knowledge and Resources to Stay in School

By Ivan Seguya | Project leader

For a girl growing up in a vulnerable household, staying in school can depend on much more than having a classroom to attend. Limited access to accurate sexual and reproductive health information can leave girls unprepared to navigate puberty, menstrual health, pregnancy prevention, HIV and STI risks, healthy relationships, and other challenges that can interrupt their education. When these issues are surrounded by silence or misinformation, girls may struggle to seek timely guidance and support.

Through our Keep Her in School program, F SSIBU Mission Foundation is addressing these barriers by combining sexual and reproductive health education, practical learning materials, mentorship, counselling, and parent engagement. With the support of our donors, we provide and distribute educational resources to girls, parents, and caregivers, helping families access information they can use both in our sessions and at home.

We are creating safe spaces where girls can ask questions, build confidence, understand their health, and learn how to seek appropriate support. At the same time, parents and caregivers are equipped with knowledge and practical resources that can help them communicate more openly with their daughters and provide stronger support during adolescence.

The Olutindo parent guide and related educational materials help extend these conversations beyond a single activity. They give families an opportunity to continue discussing sexual and reproductive health, strengthening communication and creating a more supportive environment around girls.

For F SSIBU, keeping girls in school means addressing the challenges that can push them out—not simply helping them return to the classroom. Our goal is to ensure that vulnerable girls have the knowledge, support, and resources they need to remain in school, protect their wellbeing, and continue building their future.

Your support can help us reach more girls and families with educational materials, mentorship, counselling, and community-based learning. By supporting Keep Her in School, you help turn information into protection, support into confidence, and opportunity into a pathway for girls to stay in school and pursue their dreams.
