RECUDING HIV VULNERABILITY IN TEENAGE GIRLS

By Khasiani Isaiah | Director

Introduction

This report covers the period between December 2024 to February 2025. The project targets young girls and teenage mothers who at risk of HIV/AIDs. The main objective is to provide comprehensive education on effective prevention methods agains HIV.

By October 2024 the project had reached 130 teenagers through 18 peer education and training outreaches. So far 260 teenagers have been reached between December 2024 and February 2025. The positive tragectory is highly attriuted to the massive support received from partners and well wishers both locally and internationally.

Achievement:

Within this reporting period, 260 teens have been reached and directly impacted by the project as follows;-

260 teenagers undertook voluntary counselling and testing services and had the opportunity to learn their HIV statuses. Out of these total(14) 23% were found to be HIV+. Outof the 14, 5 are young single mothers still living with their parents, 2 are in marriage and the rest do not have children nor married. Out of the 14,  4 are male and the rest are female.

FHF has so far refered those infected for ART uptake in variuos health facilities even as we continue to provide mental health and other psycho-social support activities to all of them.

Through linkages with relevant health facilities, young people are able to do health visits freely for further counceling and advise. There is increased uptake of HIV prevention technologies in young people such as use of Pep and Prep. Young people are also able to work in groups for peer to peer support services.

Moving forward:

As we move forward the organization remains steadfast and optimistic that more teenagers will be reached with education , training and support services evenn as we continue to mobilize resources for the same purpose.

Challenges:

Despite the positive feedback of the project, resource constraints has remained a big problem that affects both commodity and personnel. It is fear that this situation will be exacerbated by the recent freeze on US donor aid given the fact that USAID has been supporting bigger part of HIV care and treatment in Kenya. Due to this development it is much possible  that commodities such as Condom, Prep, Pep may run down and become expensive for people who are already suffering.
