ENABLE 1250HHs TO BE FOOD SECURE

Despite our strong commitment and careful planning, we have not yet achieved our project expectations due to insufficient funding. The financial shortfall has significantly delayed the implementation of key activities designed to improve livelihoods and resilience among vulnerable households. Our targets included supporting 800 households in climate-smart farming, which would have strengthened food security and adaptive capacity. Without the necessary resources, these interventions remain unimplemented, and communities continue to face heightened vulnerability to climate impacts.

A critical component of our work was the planned acquisition of camels for 100 households to enhance mobility, drought resilience, and household income. Funding constraints prevented the procurement and distribution of these livestock assets, denying families the opportunity to diversify and stabilize their livelihoods. Similarly, we envisioned empowering 150 women-led households through business facilitation, but the lack of capital support has stalled this initiative. As a result, many enterprising women remain unable to start or expand meaningful economic activities.

We also intended to provide monthly cash support to 100 elderly-led households to meet basic needs and maintain dignity. Unfortunately, without sufficient funds, this essential social protection measure could not be rolled out as scheduled. Additionally, support for 100 youth households to engage in Cash-for-Work activities was put on hold, limiting opportunities for youth employment and community asset creation. The absence of these interventions has negatively impacted both individual well-being and broader community development outcomes.

Across all beneficiary categories, we planned for 1,250 households to receive capacity-building training tailored to their specific needs. These trainings were designed to enhance skills in sustainable agriculture, business management, and resilience practices, yet they remain largely undelivered due to financial gaps. Completing these activities would have made a measurable contribution toward food security, stability, and long-term resilience for vulnerable families. We remain committed to securing the necessary funding to realize these goals and transform planned actions into tangible impact.

This project is designed to support 800 households (HHS) in actively engaging in climate-smart farming practices that will enhance food security and improve resilience to climate-related shocks. Additionally, 100 households will benefit from the provision of camels, which will serve as a sustainable source of livelihood and strengthen pastoralist communities. By focusing on these interventions, the project aims to promote long-term sustainability and reduce vulnerability among targeted groups.

Furthermore, the project will empower 150 women-headed households to invest in meaningful businesses that can generate steady income and improve household welfare. Women’s participation in business will not only enhance their economic independence but also contribute to community development. This intervention will ensure that vulnerable women are provided with opportunities to thrive in a dignified and self-reliant manner.

The project will also support 100 elderly-headed households with monthly cash transfers to meet their basic needs and reduce economic pressure on their families. These transfers will ensure that the elderly, who may be unable to work, can access essential goods and services without reliance on unsustainable coping strategies. By addressing the needs of this group, the project ensures inclusivity and protection for all vulnerable members of society.

In addition, 100 youthful households will participate in Cash for Work projects, providing them with short-term income opportunities while contributing to community infrastructure and development. Capacity-building training will be undertaken for all beneficiary categories to enhance their skills and ensure the sustainability of the interventions. Although the activities have not yet started, upon receipt of funding, the project will implement all planned initiatives in a timely and efficient manner.
