This project will support 800 HHS to actively engage in climate-smart farming practices, 100 HHS will receive camels, 150 women-headed HHS to invest in meaningful businesses, 100 elderly-headed HHS will receive cash transfers monthly and 100 youthful HHS to participate in Cash for Work projects. The project will undertake capacity-building training for all the beneficiary categories.
Currently, 120,043 HHS live in high poverty in Turkana. The project targets 1250 HHS-affected vulnerable groups including women, the elderly, youth, and men. This problem is a result of severe food insecurity caused by climate change, loss of livestock, conflict, poor infrastructure, limited opportunities, women-headed households, and systemic deprivation of financial resources, and human capital.
This project will support 800 HHS in climate-smart farming, buy camels for 100 HHS, facilitate 150 women-led HHS to undertake meaningful businesses, disburse monthly cash to 100 elderly-led HHS, and support 100 youthful HHS in undertaking Cash for Work activities. 1250 HHS will receive capacity-building training for beneficiary categories. These activities will seek to bring food security stability to the beneficiaries.
The project will have supported 1250 HHS by actively engaging them in climate-smart farming practices and benefiting them from the distribution of camels. The targeted beneficiaries will also have operated profitable livelihoods, received cash, and stabilized their food and income security. The project would have provided all beneficiaries with capacity training for sustainability purposes.
