Youth Empowered!

¡Youth Empowered!

Three years ago when we started constructing our training programs aimed at empowering youngsters for work, we thought about two main goals: eradicating poverty and closing inequality gaps.

Today when we look back we cannot feel but satisfied with the results of our short-term/high-impact programs and the community we have created. All of this thanks to your trust and support, because as we often say: together we achieve more!

Already 150 young boys and girls have benefited from our programs. Last year alone, we met our ambitious target of having 100 beneficiaries of the Jóvenes creaTIvos program, and this year we are aiming for more.

Below you will find some facts about our project:

  • We received close to 600 applications for 100 spots on the 2020 program.
  • Our investment per beneficiary dropped from COP $1’600,000 in 2019 to COP $1’200,000 in 2020 due to economies of scale and proper use of technology.
  • The participation of girls in the program increased by 40% from 2019 to 2020.
  • The total number of training hours increased 50% on average, through the asynchronic learning system. In 2019 the average training time was 4 hours per week, and with the implementation of our e-learning platform this number increased to 6 hours per week.
  • The desertion rate in Medellín was maintained at 20%, same as 2019.
  • 96% of the beneficiaries come from families whose income is less than 2 monthly minimum wages (~ USD $500)
  • 72% of the participants are in their last year of school
  • By now, almost 20 of the participants (all under the age of 18) are employed in technology areas of partner companies, being productive as software developers. We expect this number to raise to 30 in the next month.
  • Those beneficiaries that have been employed have increased their family income by 70% on average. Some of them have become the main provider during the COVID-19 pandemic.

2020 was a year full of challenges, but also a year full of opportunities. The fact we had to make a drastic turn to a fully virtual program gave us the window to have a more aggressive expansion rate in future years. In 2021, we hope to find suitable allies to train 200 youngsters in 5 cities in Colombia.

We now prepare for 2021 while we also take action to continue nurturing the community we have created with former participants of the program. This year, for the first time, we will advance in parallel between the 2021 cohort and the complementary courses and activities to continue to support our community of past Jóvenes creaTIvos. We will continue to provide training in soft skills, as well as in tools to enhance the possibilities of working in technology companies.

That is our bet in favor of the young boys and girls that are born into poverty but that thanks to supporters like you, will have the chance to break these cycles and foresee a prosperous future.

SPANISH VERSION

¡Juventud empoderada!
