Empowering Orphans Through Education: A Milestone Update

Since our last update, Nyumbani Village has continued to empower young learners, with inspiring academic achievements that highlight the transformative impact of your support.

In the 2024 Kenya National Secondary Examinations (KCSE), 70 students from Lawson High School in Nyumbani Village sat for their exams. We are thrilled to report that 15 students secured direct entry to university, while the rest are set to join various tertiary institutions under our sponsorship. Meanwhile, at COGRI Vocational Training Centre (CVTC), 36 students took their exams, with an outstanding 35 passing—demonstrating their resilience and commitment to a brighter future.

Beyond secondary school, we are proud to celebrate two significant milestones. In October 2024, Steven, a Nyumbani Village beneficiary, graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in IT from South Eastern Kenya University. Just a month later, Susan, another bright young scholar, earned her Bachelor’s degree in Sociology and Literature from Egerton University. Their journeys are a testament to what is possible when education meets opportunity.

Empowering 100 Orphans Through Education in Kenya: Transformation thanks to your support!

Imagine a world where every child, regardless of their health conditions, has the opportunity to reach their full potential. At Nyumbani Village, we're making that dream a reality. Our project, "Empowering 100 orphans Through Education in Kenya," is dedicated to providing these children with the education, support, and resources they need to break free from poverty and build brighter futures.

A Story of Resilience: Tabitha's Journey

Before Nyumbani, I felt lost. I didn't think I was capable of achieving anything, and I felt hopeless and alone. But since I arrived at Nyumbani, everything has changed.

I used to struggle in school, but now I'm excelling in subjects I never thought I could. The teachers and tutors are always there to help me, and they believe in me even when I don't believe in myself.

The support provided to me goes beyond academics. Psychological counselling has helped me work through my past traumas and develop healthy coping mechanisms. And the religious support has given me a sense of purpose and belonging that I never had before.

Now, I want to work hard, succeed in education, and have a good future so I can help other girls.

Impact of the Project

Through our "Empowering 100 orphans Through Education in Kenya" project, we have provided vital support to countless children like Tabitha. Our comprehensive programs include:

Hope reignited: The story of Angela

My name is Angela, but back then, I was just a wisp of a girl with eyes too big for my face. Nine years ago, I shuffled through the gates of Nyumbani Village, the weight of loss clinging to me like dust in the dry season. My mother, my whole world, had been stolen (passed on) by complications from HIV. All that remained was a hollow ache in my chest and a hazy future.

Nyumbani became my anchor. It wasn't just a roof over my head, it was a family. Here, my tummy was always full of delicious food, my nights warm in a cozy bed, and my heart held gently by the caring caregivers. They didn't just mend the cracks in my spirit, they filled them with hope.

Hope. That's the most precious gift Nyumbani gave me. Hope that I could heal, hope that I could learn, and most of all, hope that I could dream again. Because of your generosity, Nyumbani provides me with free education, and that education has become my wings.

Suddenly, surrounded by wonderful teachers and classmates who turned into sisters and brothers, I felt like I could finally touch the sky. Now, I'm not that scared little girl anymore. I'm a proud form four student at Lawsons High School, my head held high!

Looking back, a wave of gratitude washes over me. It's all because of you, the amazing people who donate to Nyumbani Village. You believed in me when I couldn't even believe in myself.

And guess what? My dreams are bigger than ever. I don't just dream of graduating, I dream of using my education to lift others up. I want to be the reason a scared child finds their own hope, their own Nyumbani (home).
