In a region where women often have very less said in decisions regarding the finances of their family, their contribution to sustaining their family – whether in the fields, at home or as a labor, is humongous. However, they have had little or no control over the family income. Women who have been deserted or forced to leave the matrimonial home commonly are left with nothing.
Seva Mandir conducts interventions to make women financially secure and creates women’s collective with an aim to provide livelihood opportunities of farming and livestock, build their financial- digital literacy and advocate for their rights.
With the same fervor, for 2023 International Women’s Day, Seva Mandir organized various events and programmes across many villages dedicating to women’s empowerment and the unbreakable spirit of our community women!
Women’s village level conference, workshops, cultural and sports community led events and forum discussion were held on women’s role in society, their financial and economic independence through livelihood, -digital literacy and their equal status in society, across the month of March in various villages of Kotda, Girwa, Jhadol, Sarada and Kherwada in south Rajasthan. Many of these blocks are considered as one of the most backward places, especially for women.
Over 2000 women participated in these events along with women village leaders and grassroot workers who champion the cause under women’s empowerment wing of Seva Mandir. These events become platforms for women to share their stories of struggle, triumph, learnings and how they plan to maneuver further in creating an equal society for women in their communities. The sessions are rich source of knowledge sharing, learning and understanding for Seva Mandir as well to help us know our community better, understand their needs, connect with them on deeper level and share it across to our donors and supporters.
This year the theme of International Women’s day was DigitALL: Innovation and technology for gender equality”. Till now, Seva Mandir has trained about 200 digital Sakhis’ (trainers) who have further reached out to over 30,000 women on using ATMs, digital banking transactions and safeguarding from digital frauds.
We aim to reach out to 50,000 tribal and rural women in across 1500 villages in the coming years..
We write this to you, with an intent to share about our consistent efforts in caring for our community women to grow and celebrate their womanhood. This is just one instance of the impact Seva Mandir aims to bring. We need your continuous support, trust and understanding to build onto this.
Incase you may like to share your thoughts on International Women’s day what women’s empowerment means to you. Please do write to us in the comments. We’d be happy to know!
Best Wishes,
