"A girl without self-confidence is nothing...Project Soar made me a flower blooming..." - Syrian Girls
In the midst of war + conflict, Syrian teen girls are at high risk of mental illness, gender-based violence + child marriage. Living in precarious conditions in extreme poverty, they are unable to afford basic menstrual supplies, causing embarrassment. Isolated, alone + displaced, they have few prospects for learning skills that can help them better navigate their circumstances. "I do not think I can achieve ...(my) dreams..." "I am depressed and there is no safety here." - Syrian Teen Girls
Project Soar gives girls hope, confidence + community. The program connects them to other girls just like them + together they take 25 Soar workshops to understand their value, voice, body, rights + path. Led by experienced Syrian Soar Facilitators, the program helps Syrian girls to manage their mental + physical health + gives them menstrual supplies. "After every workshop, I feel a change in my personality and psychology...towards positivity. The workshops make me feel valuable." - Soar Girls
To date, 304 Syrian girls have graduated from Project Soar. External 3rd party evaluator, Untold Research, found: "Project Soar's program was undeniably effective with Syrian teen girls ... girls now hold empowering beliefs about themselves, their voices, their value and their ability to be a force for change in their communities." Soar girls have "increased levels of confidence... + knowledge about their bodies...+ understanding ... they are in control of shaping their own futures."
