Project Soar empowers marginalized teen girls across Morocco through the "5 Soar Pillars of Empowerment": Value, Voice, Body, Rights, and Path. This initiative supports Girl Squads - groups of 20 teen girls - through the Project Soar in a Box program, which includes 25 transformative empowerment workshops. These programs foster self-confidence, advocacy skills, menstrual health awareness, and future goal setting, all within safe spaces where girls can thrive.
Ranked 136th in the 2023 Gender Gap Index and falling to 11th place in the MENA region, Morocco remains a patriarchal society with deeply entrenched gender norms. Many socio-economic barriers prevent girls from accessing equal educational opportunities, particularly in rural areas, where only 26% of girls attend school compared to 79% of boys (Borgen Project, 2017). These girls need dedicated spaces to build their self-worth, develop agency, and nurture the determination required to overcome suc
Project Soar trains local women to become facilitators and role models for girls. These Soar Facilitators lead empowerment workshops covering topics like "Managing Menstruation with Dignity" and "The Right to Be Free from Child Marriage." Through these sessions, girls gain practical skills and knowledge, including sustainable menstrual solutions lasting 2-3 years. Soar Girls are also trained to lead community dialogues, advocating for the rights of their peers.
The Soar Solution impacts over 1,000 marginalized girls annually, equipping them with lifelong skills and knowledge. As informed self-advocates, they are empowered to pursue education, build careers, and actively oppose injustices. In 2023, 99% of Soar Girls progressed to the next grade level, with 0.03% school dropout, and no cases of underage marriage. Furthermore, all graduates advanced to higher education, compared to the national average of 39.05%.
