Strengthening Rural Economies
By Zachery Onyango | Uganda
Strengthening Rural Economies
Development Alert’s microloan initiative is playing a vital role in strengthening rural economies by empowering women entrepreneurs. By providing interest-free loans, the program removes financial barriers that often prevent women from participating in economic activities.
The 100 women supported so far are now actively contributing to their local economies through small businesses. From selling produce to running retail shops, these enterprises are generating income and creating ripple effects within communities.
The program also promotes savings and peer learning, encouraging women to support one another and share best practices. This collective approach enhances sustainability and resilience.
As household incomes increase, families are better able to meet their needs and invest in education and health.
We thank our generous supporters for enabling this impact. Together, we are building stronger communities where women play a central role in economic development.

Building Financial Independence

Building Financial Independence
Access to affordable finance remains a challenge for many rural women in Uganda. Development Alert is addressing this gap by providing interest-free microloans that empower women to start and grow small businesses.
Through this program, 100 women have gained the financial boost needed to launch income-generating activities such as farming, tailoring, and small-scale trading. The absence of interest payments allows them to retain more profits and grow sustainably.
Beyond loans, beneficiaries receive mentorship in financial literacy, business planning, and savings practices. These skills are critical in ensuring long-term success.
Women are reporting increased confidence and decision-making power within their households. Many have begun saving regularly and investing in their futures.
This initiative is not just about financial support—it’s about creating lasting change. With continued support, even more women can break free from poverty and build resilient livelihoods.

Expanding Opportunities for Rural Women
By Zachery Onyango | Project Leader
Expanding Opportunities for Rural Women Development Alert continues to transform lives in rural Uganda by providing interest-free microloans to women entrepreneurs. This initiative addresses one of the biggest barriers women face—access to affordable capital. With 100 women already supported, beneficiaries are now running small businesses in agriculture, retail, and local trade. Without the burden of high-interest repayments, these women are reinvesting profits into their businesses and households. Many report improved ability to pay school fees, access healthcare, and meet daily needs. In addition to financial support, the program emphasizes mentorship, savings culture, and peer collaboration. Women meet regularly to share experiences, build skills, and encourage one another. The results go beyond income—they represent dignity, confidence, and independence. As these women succeed, they become role models in their communities. We are grateful to our supporters for making this impact possible and look forward to expanding this life-changing initiative.
