The long awaited time to solving the problem of difficult access to portable water by the villagers of Babaegbe and adjoining hard to reach villages is here. The village is located in the outskirt of Ibadan city, Oyo state Nigeria. This move to getting the problem solved has been on for quite a while now. Several progress have been made in this regard. But, raising funds for the main stage of the project which is drilling and encasing has been a "thug of war". Though, an Organization who has promised to partner in providing some of the accessories needed after drilling is still standing by. However, the heavy downpours in recent times have made the road more inaccessible to both light and heavy weight machineries. This gave us an opportunity to negotiate a flexible instalmental payment process with our contractor. The process which recieved a warm welcome by both our trustee and the contractor, aims at getting the total needed fund ready against the period when the road will be accessible to the drilling machines. The trustee and members of the Organization have therefore agreed to contribute a monthly token offline to enable us reach our goal. Meanwhile, the first instalment had since been paid to kick start the process. The community members are also showing their commitment in their little ways.
Portable water in this village will not only prevent outbreak of diseases, it will also be a major way of economic empowerment to the entire neighbourhood. A little above $1,000 more with the resources already gathered will help us more than almost achieving the project goals.

The villagers of Babaegbe in Akinyele local government area of Oyo state Nigeria could not shelf their joy in recent weeks. Oak Rural Health Organization's team took a surprised and unannounced visit to the community, in company of borehole construction engineers. Our mission this time is to locate a suitable point for siting the borehole. This is achieved through a procedure called geophysical survey. Some of the villagers on ground summoned themselves to witness this hope intensifying development. After about 2 hours of measuring and manoeuvres by the experts at different locations within the village, they were able to identify a promising point for the proposed borehole. The report however suggested drilling about 80 to 85 meters to get a water quality that will serve the community.
The next step now which is drilling, encasing and pump installation must be executed together. It is estimated at $1,945. We have made series of campaigns and other consultations to ensure the needed amount is raised. But, the available fund presently is still small compared to our need. This project has a high potential of empowering the villagers and most importantly, preventing disease outbreak. Thus, the need for completing it at the earliest possible time. The villagers were able to develop a sense of being loved again, seeing our concerns and enthusiasm for their debilitating condition of living.

Community involvement; a promising approach

Well provided by the local government
Babaegbe village in Akinyele local government still suffer from lack of portable water, which has hampered their health and socioeconomic lives. Oak Rural Health Organization took a new dimension to ensuring a portable and sustainable access to water supply. Our team had been engaged with an ongoing dialogue with the community elders and other representatives. The villagers were amazed to realise our level of commitment and dedication to ensuring a lasting solution to the problem. However, key influential people and politicians who hailed from the district were identified. Strategies were mapped out on how to get them involved and speed up actions on the project.
While our team tried considering a cost cutting approach. We were made to realise that such has been tried in the past. The local government authority has dug a well of about 45 feet in depth. Having spent more than expected, it was of no use as the terrain was a rocky and hard to dig type.
Geophysical survey has been conducted and 3 points were identified for a productive borehole. Oak Rural Health Organization has contacted several people to ensure this project is executed within the shortest period. Green lights are begining to shine as some of them are offering a partnership options which we consider a good way to getting it done faster. We have sent appeals to some of our donors who may be interested in helping out. The community members are also willing to offer themselves as labourers where necessary. We still need a little above $3000 to meet our funding goal.
