TIPA Awareness Campaign involving 75 Children

By Valerie Desperles | Manager

Dear Supporter,

We are privileged to have you contribute to our mission to empower Mauritian children. We take this opportunity to tell you more about our actions on the field and how we are shaping the adults of tomorrow.

In the context of the International Day of Children's Rights,  TIPA partnered with Future Hope, an NGO based in Cité Briquetterie that accommodates afterschool programs for children who need support in their schooling and teenagers who have fallen through the mainstream educational system.

Through a full day of creative activities, we had the opportunity to reach around 75 children aged 5- 17 years old, all living in the disadvantaged suburb areas of Port Louis, the capital.

This forms parts of our advocacy and awareness efforts which are part of TIPA core missions.

The main objectives for the day were to raise awareness of children’s rights through artistic activities:

1. T-shirt painting

2. Slam and

3. Music

Seven artists with various competencies participated in the event to educate children on their rights and responsibilities.

The children had the opportunity to develop their creativity through painting T-shirts with the slogan ‘Protez Mwa’- ‘Protect Me’ to raise awareness of violence committed on children. The slam workshop was a great success, where the children quickly got into the text/lyrics composition under the guidance of professional slam artists.

Our TIPA team was joined by 8 volunteers and 6 members of staff from Future Hope to orchestrate the event and make sure that the objectives of collaboration and awareness of the rights for children were the foundation of the day’s activity.

In 2020, we plan to implement awareness workshops with more NGOs as well as run follow-up sessions with Children’s to consolidate their knowledge.

We will also use pedagogical strategies such as positive discipline tools, non-violent Communication, Child Development, and Child protection protocol to help answer the needs of our society.

We thank you again for your support of our project. We feel grateful to have the support of so many individuals. It really makes a difference in empowering the underprivileged into becoming the responsible citizen of tomorrow.

Yours Faithfully.
