As we come to the end of the year, we would like to thank again all those who have supported us with this project in 2020. Your one-off and regular donations mean that the youngest who live with us receive the support they need in order to develop to their full potential.

We’re re-launching our fundraising campaign to support us in 2021. The funds raised from our new project will support our care and other essential costs in 2021 for the 240 children and adults with disabilities that live at Prithipura Communities.

The project launches on Tuesday 1st December – GIVING TUESDAY. Thanks to GlobalGiving’s #MoveAMillion incentive fund, the more you give on this day, the larger share we win out of $1 million USD in bonus funds.

If you have set up a recurring donation, you don’t have to do anything. Your donation will automatically transfer to our 2021 project.

Thank you again for all your support – stay safe and stay well!

Thanks to your kind support, we have raised nearly $9,000 so far to support the youngest that live with us. We really appreciate your contributions.

Your donations support many children, including a young boy called Kevin. Kevin came to the Infants Home as a baby in 2016 with his mother. His mother also lives at Prithipura and is employed as a Carer. Along with his friends Ashu and Poorne, Kevin recently moved onto our residential school, Cotagala School, where he can further develop independent living skills as well as attending school full-time.

Cotagala School, as with all our locations, has a philosophy of nurture and caring and allowing each person the chance to find things that they are good at and contribute in their own way to the daily life of where they live. Kevin and his friends will get the chance to take part in many activities in addition to the traditional school subjects. Extra-curricular activities include art, music, sport and dancing and they will also learn important skills for life such as looking after themselves, cooking, gardening, farming and much more besides!

We are delighted with the progress Kevin has made over the last few years. He has certainly benefitted from remaining close to his mother as well as receiving specialist care and therapeutic support at the Infants Home. We are sure that he and his friends will continue to thrive at Cotagala School.

We are also relieved that despite these worrying times, all those who live with us, including our youngest, continue to remain happy, safe and well. Having been on lockdown for several months, we had slowly been relaxing our restrictions that had been put in place to shield those who would be vulnerable to COVID-19. However, in the last two weeks, there has been a large cluster identified close to the Infants Home. As such, we remain extremely cautious and very careful with the measures we have in place to protect the vulnerable who live with us.

If you would like to continue to support us, please do consider setting up a small regular donation to help with essential running costs – support which is much needed due to the COVID-19 pandemic:

Like us, we hope you are continuing to keep safe and well during this challenging time. Thank you once again for your support!

The last few months have seen a dramatic change to the lives of people all over the world due to the COVID 19 pandemic, and this is also true for all of us at Prithipura Communities. We have been on lockdown for 3 months now – no-one is entering in or leaving our premises and all our essentials are being delivered. We are pleased to report that we remain healthy, happy and safe. This includes the babies and toddlers who live with us, who continue to grow and thrive.

Our days continue with the usual routines and there is always time for fun and laughter. Our youngest have particularly enjoyed splashing around in the pool on a sunny morning and they have also got creative in the schoolroom with Priyanka, our nursery teacher.

We can’t go out but have celebrated birthdays and key religious festivals on-site and ensured that everyone is included. This week, Eleesha turned two and we celebrated with a party and cake for everyone. Eleesha came to the Infants Home as a small baby and her carers are delighted at her continued progress.

Prithipura Communities has always had a spirit of togetherness and this has been enhanced by the current crisis. Our team of carers do what they do to care for and protect the vulnerable. They are aware more than ever of how vital their work is. They support those they care for as well as each other. Daily acts of kindness and helping each other will ensure we continue to thrive.

A drop in local donations that provided our daily needs such as food, medicines, and other essentials has been very worrying, but we have been heartened with the support for this that has come from far and wide. So far, we have weathered the storm both health-wise and financially and we remain ever thankful for this. We know that many of you have already donated to our COVID-19 appeal. If you would like to contribute towards our essential costs for June, you can do so here:

Thank you for your generous support during our fundraising campaign in December and to all those who have donated since! We have currently raised nearly $5,000 so far – a substantial amount that goes a long way in supporting our youngest.

So how does your support help? Yehansa’s story is a perfect example.

Yehansa came to us when she was just 3 months old, due to severe family difficulties. Yehansa was born with Down Syndrome and as a young baby, regardless of her disability, needed lots of special care.

Pushpa, one of our most experienced carers, took special care of her and continues to do so. Now at over 6 months old, Yehansa is thriving. Babies with Down Syndrome often have low muscle tone but Yehansa has not let this hamper her development. Yehansa rolls and commando crawls and has good head control. She is also very alert and enjoys spending time with her carers. She is also learning to hold her bottle and loves listening to nursery rhymes.

As she gets older, Yehansa will have specialist support from our therapy team to support in the development of important skills. For the moment, she is a calm, happy baby who is very much at home with us.

We are delighted that we now have 8 donors who have set up monthly donations. This means that we can continue to raise funds throughout the year for this vital support.

You can set up a recurring donation here – please do share the link with others who might like to support us:

Also, please don’t forget if you are a UK tax payer, you can select to claim Gift Aid and GlobalGiving will process this on our behalf.

Thank you once again for your invaluable support and all the best for 2020!
