Girls Confidence wins Scholarships

Scholarship Girls
Winding down our school year is always rewarding. June is the month we choose new scholarship students who will be able to complete 3 years of high school and then 3-4 years of university without the financial burden.
This year, we selected 11 students to interview from our pool of 29 essays. It was noted that 75% of the students were girls. They sashayed into the interview with confidence and verve. A few had added bows and lipstick to their outfits. The final pick was 8 students and 5 of them were girls with only 3 boys in the group.
We currently have 23 students in grades 10-12 and TWENTY of them are girls. They want to be doctors, nurses, environmental scientists, accountants and a few will be teachers. Having seen these students grow up the past 6 years, I am so proud of their accomplishments. It makes my heart sing to see their confidence and know that we have empowered them to fulfill their potential.
Thanks and gratitude to our donors who make this possible.

Days for Girls Action

DFG Group
Our puberty classes are the highlight of our school year in the first quarter. We are consistently educating both the girls and the boys so they know and grow and understand what is happening to their bodies.
We have partnered with Days For Girls, a worldwide organization that helps provide reusable sanitary pads for girls who cannot afford them. This years batch of sanitary kits was sewn in Australia by the Camberwell Girls Grammar School. Thank you Maria Hicks and her team. After explaining to the girls how to use the kits, they were very happy to be able to have the sanitary pads and not miss a day of school.
CCDO is very proud of students and they are certainly reaching their full potential with the help of our gracious donors.

Confidence Abounds

Puberty Learning
Knowing that our Puberty Program is taking traction was confirmed by a visit from the Days for Girls Team. They interviewed students who were given their kits 18 months ago to see how they use the sanitary kits and how this helps them stay in school and not miss any days.
They were very impressed with our students and that all girls insist on coming to school and not missing any days. They had a confidence about them and seem to always be top of their class.
CCDO realizes the importance of being available to the girls for general counselling and confidence building. They are taught about gender equality and that they are able to do whatever they want. That education is the key to their success and they should continue to dream big. We are proud that our scholarship class of 23 students has 20 girls and 3 boys.
This is a very high percentage when we realize that there are more boys than girls in school and in the local villages.
Thanks to our constant supporters of this program, we couldn’t have the success without your support.
