Spreading the Wings of Empowerment

Students trying elevator
Each January, CCDO has a new intake of girls in the 9th Grade, ready to spread their wings.
This year was very special as we moved into a neighboring Commune/District and added 21 new schools to our roster. This means that we have many students who have not been exposed to our Know and Grow Puberty Workshops. We are now able to spread our wings in to new areas and take on the delightful task of educating the girls and boys on their physiological needs as they grow into maturity.
The workshops in the Angkor Thom Commune were conducted with the help of the Angkor University nursing class. They have groomed the students and given tips on how to be more confident.
The results have been better self awareness which has shown improvement in their academic tests results.
We recently took a group of the students into downtown Siem Reap on an outing. The only thing that phased them was an elevator that they experienced for the first time.
It is a joy to see the young students blossom and become more aware of the world around them.
A thanks of gratitude to the continued support of the donors.

Teaching the Puberty Basics

Anatomy Class
Each new school year brings us back to teaching the basics of Puberty. The girls and boys learn the anatomyof the body, both separately and then together. Knowledge is understanding and power and brings the teens together with an understanding of each other and their growing hormones. They learn to respect each other and about gender equality.
Safe sex is a big part of the lessons with the older students. It is the responsability of both the boys and the girls to ensure the use of condoms. There is also a cultural norm to abstain from casual sex. We experience no teenage pregnancies in our schools. The students realize the value of education and will ensure that they complete at least grade 9 and often grade 12 if the family finances permit.
Our 6 week puberty course culminates in a student march celebrating women and mothers on international day of the women.
A special thanks of gratitude to our donors who ensure that we can continue to teach our puberty classes.

Gender Awareness Increases Girls Potential
By Jenni Lipa | President & Founder CCDO

Health Screening
Often times, we need to see the otherside to experience the full impact. In our Girls Program, we have started to be more inclusive and teach boys about puberty and gender equality. This will give the girls more stature in the community. CCDO has taken a leaf from thepowerful #Meetoo Movement.
We have moved our education process to a new area and are starting to give boys the full information about the pains of puberty and how to learn and grow. They realize that girls are powerful and are more than equal. Most of our scholarship students are girls as they learn how to apply themselves and work harder. The boys are starting to catch on and catch up and they are eger to learn.
This awareness has increased the girls potential and allows them to shine and take the lead.
We sre grateful to our donors who are supportive of our efforts. This couldnt be done without your help.
