“Quique” a 6-year-old boy, like 18 other girls and boys, began his educational process in 2019, thanks to your support and the educational work of El Caracol, he managed to have all the documents to enter a school.
However, during the first months "Quique" presented some problems, he didn’t know the numbers and letters, he was shy, he didn’t participate and had no confidence in himself and his abilities. That is why we promote psycho-pedagogical activities directly in the streets so that, in addition to knowing their context in detail, we generate confidence and security so that girls and boys like “Quique” do not present some kind of lag in their educational inclusion.
“I feel nice that I wake up and those from El Caracol come to play and show me the numbers… I think they care about me and they love me, because they dedicate their time to me and that is what makes me happy, that they are with me, because that way I no longer feel alone”, says “Quique”.
“Quique’s” mother comments: "I couldn’t study because I had no support at all, that’s why it’s sometimes difficult for me to teach my son the letters, numbers and, therefore, writing, adding and subtract. It's great that people come to support us and provide specialized attention and show me and my son ways to learn and teach. ”
Chamany is a program that promotes the right to physical and mental health of girls and boys of the street population, which helps to enhance different areas of their development such as language, motor skills and insertion into the education system.
“From my perspective I consider that Chamany is an essential program in El Caracol, improving the physical and mental health of girls and boys has a direct impact on psychoeducational development, generates confidence and security when entering the school environment", says Ivan, one of the educators of the association.

The teachers realized that the children were exposed to the use of substances and solvents (since their father and mother are regular consumers of solvents) had few educational skills and live in conditions that could lead them to a possible street life.
Thanks to the support you provide in "Chamany physical and metal care for street children", "Los gemelitos" as we affectionately call them, plus another 18 children, already have a specialized diagnosis and, together with 40 other children, they have a treatment space to stimulate and strengthen their physical, cognitive and social skills.
One of the brothers mentions: "I like to go to El Caracol to play, watch movies, play with the clay and cooperate with the offering." In El Caracol A.C, we promote the right to culture through the participation of the children and activities that, in addition to helping to improve their motor skills, perception, attention and interaction, childern reflect on the process of social and cultural inclusion.
"My children and I really like to go to El Caracol, because while they play and learn, I think on the upbringing that I give them, along with other moms. We all live with people who listen to us and that's nice," says Edith, their mother.
"Chamany" promotes a family life, in which activities, workshops and counseling are carried out so that moms and their daughters / sons strengthen their emotional ties, in order to promote a life free of violence and off the streets. We invite you to continue supporting this initiative, so that children and their families continue in the process of improving their life projects.

Jessica came to El Caracol requesting support to process identity documents for her and for her 4-year-old son “Santi”, she was pregnant and was about to give birth, without documents she was at risk that the hospital would not deliver her baby. She and “Santi” worked singing in the CDMX subway, but after receiving educational support from El Caracol AC, they delivered her son from the hospital, they started an educational process in the “Chamany” project, they live off the streets, "Santi" goes to psychological therapy. “Titis" receives early stimulation from the Chamany project.
Girls and boys, participants of the Chamany project, go to specialized physical and mental attention spaces, they participate in different spaces where they improve their cognitive and language skills. “Titis” is an example of how a timely intervention helps a child to not have language problems, which allows them to have no difficulty communicating with other people, showing themselves with much more security and happiness.
To strengthen the human development of each child, from an early age, from 0 to 3 years old, recreational activities are carried out with specific objectives that stimulate their learning process at psychomotor and intellectual level, strengthening and developing basic cognitive processes such as perception , attention and memory, in addition to language, curiosity and brain functions of each.
The mother of "Titis" says: "I don’t have many words to express what I feel for the support they give us, it is very humane what they do for our children. I am excited and happy to see how my children enjoy their childhood learning and playing. "Titis" talks a lot for his age, and he shares every day with people who help him to be better every day. For me, seeing him like this, makes me realize that it is worth moving forward for them... it gives me the energy to keep going on”.
One of the educators from El Caracol comments: “During my stay, I have perceived that children who live and/or lived in the streets reflect the difficulty of their daily lives, however, “Chamany” is an open door to treat these complications. The simple fact that children have that space to learn, live ann be heard, helps to improve or strengthen their skills”.
With your collaboration, we get seven families and sixteen girls and boys to have a smile in one of the most important stages of their lives. Let's continue to build happy childhoods where we can all learn.

The just two year old “Miguelito” lives with his mom in a tent outside of one of the tube stations in Mexico-City. In his short life he has already dealt with various diseases and injuries, provoked not only by the conditions he lives in but also by the negation of medical care from clinics. When his mother works in the tube installations she always takes Miguel with her, therefore he is mostly surrounded by adults with whom he maintains friendship like relationships. At the beginning of the educational process with educators working in “El Caracol” Miguel presented empathy and motivation to learn, play and share experiences with children of his age.
By now, thanks to your collaboration with the Project “Chamany – physical and mental health for 20 children” Miguel and 20 other kids are owners of offical identifications and have access to medical treatment without experiencing discrimination. Miguel, among ten other children, receives professional support from psychologists and experts of lenguaje development, increasing his mental and physical wellbeing.
Considering the work we have realized with Miguel so far he does not count with complications and deficits in his overall development.
“What he needs is to play, he needs games that enrich and support his fisical and cognitive abilities.”, were the words of the psycologist, expert in therapy with children.
One of the educators that work in the foundation “El Caracol” commented: “I am happy to see that the project works with children that have a lot of potential, children that enjoy learning. Realizing this type of work is truly important because the childhood era is what defines a life.”
At the age of 0 to 3 years, the early stimulation is fundamental for a healthy childhood development. For a lot of the kids while being in the streets, their context does not allow the total of necessary stimulations. This might cause deficits in their future development.
In the Project “Chamany” children are given the opportunity of getting to know new strategies and ways of learning, experiencing the process of observing, touching, playing and developing their cerebral skills to the maximum.
All of the new things learned, every emotional impact and each new stimulus helps generating brain connections and brings new challenges to meet on the way to a healthy life, enjoying it while playing.

“Dani” is one of them; she is 5 years old, and her family consists of her father, mother, three brother and a sister. Her parents work in the subway of Mexico City selling self-made bracelets. When “Dani” started her educational process in El Caracol AC, it was very difficult for her to interact with other children, she didn’t want to talk to anyone, she was downhearted; she didn’t express her ideas, emotions or feelings. Now, thanks to the support you give to “Chamany”, “Dani” has improved her interaction abilities, and she has many friends at school.
As "Dani", ten other children, including their siblings and sister, have the attention of specialists in psychological therapy, language, specialists in dentistry and ophthalmology, involved in the project. Thus, girls and boys are improving their health conditions, as well as their cognitive and social potential. In addition, they have identity documents and entered the school.
"Dani" has a great performance at her school, and even performs some recreational activities such as athletics and dance; she says: "I'm happy... I like to play, I like to be listened to, I like to learn, I like to have friends, I like Chamany!". Her mother says: "What can I say? Simply thank you, thank you for the support you give my children... Thank you for showing us that there are good people in this world".
One of the educators of El Caracol comments: "We carry out an active listening with the people, I am very happy, because they used to avoid you, they did not want to talk, not even play, they kept closed. Now they interact with everyone, with other children, with their families, with educators... they turn to us when something happens to them, they ask for help and it is very gratifying that they are given that support... It is nice to see them happy. It’s beautiful!".
In "Chamany", one of the objectives is that the children express themselves, feel heard and motivated to learn, that they feel confident, always through the game, since it is an activity that, in addition to being an educational tool, it is used for fun and enjoyment. We have great goals, new challenges and challenges, so we keep motivating them to continue being part of this project, to continue learning to be happy.
We want to continue transforming the lives of more children who lived in the streets, with your help, we will achieve it.
