Each year, we measure the cognitive skills of the participants in our program.
In both instruments, 140 children and adolescents between the ages of 3 and 19 who work on the streets of Mexico City and attend our three community centers, or are served directly at their work sites on the street, were evaluated.
Among the main results we have that:
For their literacy skills, 35% of children and adolescents have a good level of skills, being those analyzed, writing, reading aloud and reading comprehension.
For the measurement of mathematical logical thinking, 66% mention that they are useful in their daily life, 54% mention that they like mathematics, 37% think that their math skills are good. For this year 2022, 18% present a good development of their skills and 10% present consolidated skills, being the skills analyzed: number sense, arithmetic operations and problem solving.
Although we still have a long way to go, we believe that children who work in the streets are affected in their right to education, since, being in the streets for long periods, they do not have a good concentration or a good environment for their development. At ednica, we are committed to non-formal education, as a stimulus for the development of their critical thinking, which in turn, allows them to stay in school.
Once again, thank you very much for supporting the education of these children, we invite you to continue supporting this effort.
