In march, april and may within of the project "Education against violence against girls", the activists of Center for Girls held 9 workshops in Nis and in small place near Leskovac with 115 girls in 2 elementary and 2 high schools. The girls were very interested in the workshops and the topic. They were active. They commented and said their opinions, they did not interrupt each other and actively listened to other participant. Some have shared some of their experiences or dilemmas with us. That is precisely why it is one of the rules that when some of the workshop participants give out some personal experience, we do not say stuff like that those who were not present. We share with them only general information about the workshop, which we were dealing with, what they heard or already knew, etc.
From the evaluation of the girls who passed the workshop you can see what they learned and what they liked:
- Alcohol is not a cause of violence, nor is the rapist/bully a mentally ill person.
- This workshop is great because it raises the awareness of girls about violence and learning us how to protect ourselvesI think that any type of violence should always be reported. Also, this workshop opened up me eyes.
- I like the workshop and what gives us the courage to take measures to help others and ourselves. I'm glad to be able to find out some information. Women should fight for their rights !!!
- The girls who were led workshop explained us how to recognize violence as soon as possible.
- I found out about Stockholm syndrome and cycle of violence.
- I learned how violence actually starting and that every slap is violence.
Workshops were done at the 2 elementary and 2 high schools. The workshops were led by Marta Stanojevic, Irena Zivkovic, Nevena Stefanovic, Mila Stanojevic and Marija Virijevic.

Workshop with girls in seventh grade
In second three months within of the project "Education against violence toward girls", the activists of Center for Girls held 4 workshops in Nis, with 55 girls in 1 elementary school. This is the first time that we are done any workshop in this school. Girls were open, shared experiences and actively participated in the workshop. They liked this workshops because we openly spoke and they had support to say something on this topic. They often do not have the opportunity to talk about it with anyone because is taboo topic in our community.
It is especially important to mention that they didn't had workshops like this before, to sat in the circle, to discuss and where everyone has the opportunity to say their opinion.
From the evaluation of the girls who passed the workshop you can see what they learned and what they liked:
-
Today, I learned that touching intimate parts of the body without permission is actually sexual sesual harasment, and that there is economic violence. I liked it, it was interesting.
-
I learned that a rapist can even be someone who is very close to us. Rape it happens indoors, not in forests. It happens in closed spaces like house, apartment, cars. I am very satisfied with this workshop.
After or during workshops the girls expressed their wish that they would like to learn some movements of self-defense in order to be able to defend themselves and in the event that they are attacked.
Workshops were done at the elementary school ‘’Ivan Goran Kovacic’’. The workshops were led by Tatjana Nikolic and Marija Virijevic. Photographed by Silvija Mihajlovic.

Girls on one of the workshops
In first three months within of the project "Education against violence against girls", the activists of Center for Girls conducted 4 workshops in Nis, with 57 girls in 3 high schools. The girls actively participated in the workshops. They liked the concept of the workshop as well as the topic we were dealing with.
The girls said that it was of great importance that they could talk to the peer educators who led the workshop, that they learned a lot and that workshops should be done more often. It is especially important to them that they sat in the circle and that they could say their opinion. From the evaluation of the girls who passed the workshop you can see what they learned and what they liked:
-
I like that there is one such organization in which women can be informed about all things related to violence of any kind.
-
I learned that no one has the right to commit violence and that everyone has the right to live safely.
-
I like this workshop because of what I learned about what is actually violence and how it begins.
-
I liked that we were listened each other and sharing our thoughts. The biggest impression left on me the wheel of violence.
-
I very much like the theme of the workshop (which is very present in the society in general), and is being little talked about that.
-
I liked that we sat in the circle and that circle represents trust.
-
I liked the stories about the issues that we dealt with because they also contain a little less known information.
-
I liked that we talked about some types of violence that are not often talked about, such as economic violence.
Workshops were done at the High School "Svetozar Markovic", Trade School and Law-Business School. The workshops were led by Marta Stanojevic, Anja Veselinovic and Marija Virijevic.
