Dear donors,

As the sixth cycle of The EcoChic Design Award comes to an end, we are celebrating yet another group of emerging sustainable designers graduating from the competition.

Ten talented finalists showed their minimal waste collections at HKTDC Hong Kong fashion week at the 2015/16 Grand Final, having already out-designed an unprecedented level of competition entries from designers living in 40 countries across Asia and Europe. Patrycja Guzik took home the first and special prizes with her up-cycled and reconstructed collection, Cora Maria Belotto secured second prize and a 'Hong Kong's Best' recognition was given to Esther Lui.

The grand final week also included a design challenge, two workshops and an industry seminar allowing the finalists to collaborate with multi-stakeholders and to find collaborative solutions and to share their expertise in sustainable design techniques, further cementing emerging designers’ power to drive positive change and push the global agenda to reduce waste in the fashion industry.

Our finalists and semi-finalists will now join The EcoChic Design Award Alumni Network where we are channeling brand and retail collaborations and mentorships to continue to develop the careers of these important designers who are using their creativity and passion to redesign fashion so that it is more sustainable from the source.

While we plan forward for our next cycle, which will be our largest educational push to date, we send thanks to our sponsors and donors for enabling us to continue to drive impact though your continued support.

A new platform for designer collaboration

Dear supporters,

We are delighted to share our most recent development with you; the launch of our The EcoChic Design Award Alumni Network, a platform to connect sustainable fashion designers with bigger industry opportunities in order to maximise their impact on making the fashion industry less polluting.

Over the past five years since its inception in 2011, Redress’ The EcoChic Design Award has gathered over 100 talented alumni from across Asia and Europe who continue to push the agenda for sustainable fashion design by showcasing their waste reducing collections on catwalks across the world, launching their own sustainable brands; informing their peers. Our previous competitors are becoming catalysts for change in their communities around the world.

At Redress we believe it is crucial that these passionate sustainable designers continue to be pioneers and to get the support they need to make lasting change. Our new The EcoChic Design Award Alumni Network does just this by providing:

Networking opportunities with industry professionals and other alumni
Promotion of alumni’s work to targeted industry professionals
Career and brand opportunities including retail collaborations, jobs and textile waste sourcing opportunities
Expert advice on designing, sourcing, marketing and selling sustainable fashion
Learning opportunities including the latest developments in sustainable fashion

Coming up, to drive the network and the designers further, we are exhibiting various talented designers’ sustainable brands in our alumni exhibition booth, to expose them to the region’s buyers at Hong Kong Fashion Week in January 2016.

But we still need your support. Our 2015/16 project is just £335 away from being fully-funded and with your continued donation we can continue in our mission to cut waste out of fashion. Starting today Global Giving are running a 'Little by Little' campaign where if you donate they will match 50% of your donation to boost our funds further. There is a limited amount of matching funds so please give today!

Celebrating The EcoChic Design Award’s five-year legacy of putting waste back into fashion

Dear Donors,

We wanted to update you on our progress made in reducing waste in the fashion industry, with thanks to your previous support.

In May, we officially opened The EcoChic Design Award 2015/16 cycle, which marks our competition’s Five Year Anniversary. We are now celebrating becoming the word’s largest sustainable fashion design competetion that challenges designers to reduce and reuse textile waste since our growth from our inauguration in Hong Kong in 2011 when we accepted entries from Hong Kong only to now including over 100 countries across Asia and Europe.

Over the last five years, we’ve introduced sustainable fashion education to thousands of emerging designers, influenced global fashion brands to produce sustainable collections and reached millions of consumers. You can find out more about our journey in our video here.

With thanks to your generosity this year, we reached even more emerging designers through our Fashion Academy tour of Hong Kong, Shanghai, Beijing, London and Mumbai, which allowed us to bring immersive sustainable fashion design knowledge from sustainable fashion experts to over 150 students, designer and lecturers.

But despite these successes, we can’t be complacent because textile waste is still a critical environmental and social issue around the world and our work to inspire and educate tomorrow’s leaders to be agents of change is far from over.

Your support means we can continue to promote the importance of rethinking fashion design education and the use of minimal waste design techniques as solutions to the growing issue of textile waste that is generated by the fashion industry and consumers globally.
