Dear Project Wezesha Supporters,

This summer marks Project Wezesha's 16th year as an established nonprofit dedicated to supporting young people in their pursuit of education, careers, and a better livelihood for themselves, their families, and their community! As we reflect upon how many lives we've impacted with your support, we are overcome with joy and gratitude.

We've learned many lessons along the way. We've navigated challenges with a flawed education system, but we've seen that very system evolve and improve immensely over the past decade. We've built foundational relationships with community leaders, who have become allies and advocates for dozens of students in our program. We've witnessed the efforts of school administrators and teachers working in underresourced schools. They rose above the odds to ensure students excelled in their classes. We hosted countless academic study camps, ensuring that students could perform well enough on national exams to attend top high schools, diploma programs, and eventually university.

Our persistent and ongoing challenge has always been fundraising, but we never gave up. Thanks to you and your support, so many young Tanzanians have been successful in their education and careers! In recent years, we stopped adding new students to our scholarship program so that we could focus on supporting current students as they finish their studies, but we're ready to add new students!

We are thrilled to celebrate four students graduating this year. Congratulations to Hamisi, Malicki, Vailethi, and Tumaini, whose graduation ceremonies will take place in November 2026.

Hamisi is completing his 5th year of studies with a double Bachelor's degree in Medicine and Surgery (MBBS). Hamisi pinpoints the birth of his dream to become a surgeon to a particular moment in time. He was accompanying his friend to the hospital as a young man. At that time, a pregnant woman entered in labor, and there were no available doctors to help her. Hamisi felt helpless and upset to see how she suffered. He decided then that he would gain the skills to make a difference in the healthcare system in Tanzania. We're thrilled for him and his future patients and look forward to sharing notes from the field once he officially become a doctor!

Malicki is graduating with a Bachelor's in Science Education with emphasis in Chemistry and Physics from the Dar es Salaam University College of Education (DUCE). In addition to teaching STEM courses, he hopes to continue his education to pursue an M.S. and PhD in the future. From the moment we met Malicki as a primary student at Mgaraganza Village, we knew he would not only aim high, but actually reach his goals. He was born to be an academic!

Vaileth is currently pursuing a Diploma in Pharmaceutical Science at Kahama College of Health Sciences. She is expected to graduate this year, after completing her academic and practical training. During her studies, Vaileth has gained valuable clinical exposure through internship placements where she learned essential pharmaceutical and basic clinical practices. These include dispensing medicines, providing patient care, applying dressings, and assisting with the use of medical equipment such as syringes and intravenous drips. She also participated in community outreach activities, where she interacted with patients to understand how medicines are used in real-world settings, thereby strengthening her practical understanding of healthcare service delivery.

Despite facing a personal challenge during her second year following the passing of her father in February 2025, Vaileth has remained focused on her studies and continues to progress with determination while living with her mother. Her resilience has been evident in her commitment to completing her training. Upon completion of her studies, she will be required to sit for a professional licensing examination to obtain a pharmaceutical license, which will officially qualify her to practice. We are confident that with her practical exposure, dedication, and perseverance, she will perform well and contribute effectively to the healthcare sector.

Tumaini is pursuing a Diploma in Early Childhood Education at Serengeti Training College. She is in her third year and is expected to graduate this year. Throughout her training, Tumaini has acquired key competencies in early childhood development, including child care, basic child psychology, lesson delivery for reading and writing, and understanding appropriate nutrition that supports children’s learning and growth. She has also completed her teaching practice, during which she actively engaged with children, applied classroom knowledge in real learning environments, and gained practical experience in classroom management.

Tumaini plans to establish a small learning class in her village after graduation to support early childhood development while seeking formal employment. Her dedication and passion for working with children reflect her commitment to improving the well-being and education of young learners in her community.

As we look ahead to our future as a small nonprofit, we are excited for the possibility of accepting new students into our scholarship program. We look forward to your continued support of more young people who want to make a difference in their society!

Please consider making a contribution today in support of our efforts. Share with friends about our work and why you value our mission! Thank you and Asante.

With deepest gratitude,

Rai, Lucas, and Madage
