Educate 120 Girls in Cusco for Economic Survival

What cries out to be said first, is how grateful we are to have had YOU, our supporters, stand with us, our 126 CW girls, Peru staff, administration and Calif support team for the last 2 years. We could never have achieved all we have the last 2 years in a global pandemic without the love and support from you. We pray the covid nightmare is over for every one, everywhere, but we realize it is not.

Celebrating with students the end of the 2021 school year in lock down was a challenge, since no gathering was allowed. Somehow Ruth managed to get approval to use the park (image you see here) where all of our students, parents, teachers and leaders could gather masked and distanced to celebrate the closure of the CW Peruvian School year 2021. 

First we celebrate our 12 graduates who have been promoted to public high school very well prepared and taking with them all they learned during 8 years of Chicuchas Wasi Education. Many of our grads demonstrate their leadership skills already. Our large library has created avid readers, the love of reading stories to their siblings and parents for fun. CW girls are creative problem solvers and team players with classmates and teachers, and have placed high in the ministry of education testing every year. The many major wins have developed the self confidence and self esteem seen in CW girls.

Every graduate becomes a member of the CW Alumnae Sisterhood club that provides ongoing mentoring, special meetings and the mutual support of the growing CW Alumnae membership each year. This class had the special treat of their own classmate violinist playing Feliz Navidad for all present and the cheering could be heard for blocks. 

CW primary grade school students were all given their earned diploma promoting them to the next grade level and special awards for some unique achievements. CW School has been approved to reopen in March 2022 for returning CW students. The availability of the vaccine for 5 years and up has made return to physical school possible for all Peru. Parents must show they too have been vaccinated to ensure students, staff and parents are protected. Our enthusiastic parents have already begun to prepare the soil around the school to plant the vegetables for the school meal program. Everyone is reved up to return to our beloved school for the 2022 school year in March. Uniforms, books and school utilities are lining up and the classrooms are cleaned and ready to go. Excitement is in the air after 2 whole years away and unable to even visit as a group.

HOT NEWS: Yesterday, Teacher Jessica delivered her third child and bringing added joy to the entire team ready to put covid behind us.

*Three student families were forced to return back to the family farm in the mountains and we hope they return soon.

*The fundraiser tuition based Maria School has been ready to open for 2 years. Finally we have been given the green light to begin registering new students.

*We look forward to the return of foreign visitors to Cusco and CW school, and the economic lift that will bring to a country dependent on tourism.  The year 2022 will be the beginning of recovery for everyone in Peru.

*The photos you see are of the 12 graduates being honored, the one violinist playing for all present, and encouraged to be active in the Alumnae club that will help guide their futures. Grads were given diplomas and all students were given a Christmas gift and hot chocolate and panitone to share with family.

We are ready to return to our school and to finally enroll new students into our (fundraiser) Maria school to ensure longevity of CW for generations to come.

CW's future when 'Maria Tuition School' classes are filled, will be self-supporting. CoVid upset our plans to open the Maria school in 2020, but we are grateful that our CW large extended family is well. We plan to begin enrolling new students in March 2022 when the school year begins again.
NOTE: Cusco IS vaccinating now. Children are expected to return to school for the next school year that begins March 2022. We are all super excited. Thank you all for hanging in there with us. We have a little way to go yet but the impact of our work is self evident in the success of our girls...some at the university today.

Our girls love learning - even during covid lock-down, LOVE and JOY fill the air and hearts of our CW girls every single day...

CW still celebrate CW Graduates, even during bitter sweet moments around coved...

Christmas and the last days of the school year are just days away. Sadly, we cannot gather at the school to laugh while decorating our classroom trees, or share panettone and hot chocolate with friends or our official graduation ceremony for our 13 grads heading to High School next March. But, we are still going to celebrate at home with our families, and open our Christmas gift from our beloved school. Administrator/Director Ruth is once again packing up special food items like holiday panettone and hot chocolate, main meal ingredients and a gift for every girls to deliver to each girl's home for Christmas. Girls will use the recent Tablet donations (from Lima medical friends) to CW girls and their cell to share the excitement with classmates and teachers. So joy and love is really still in the air. 

Below is an earlier kindergarten Christmas classroom with teacher Rita before covid. Next year will be new again, as all girls return to the school on March1, 2021. Ruth has met with parents and is meeting now with CW students to teach the new safety rules: distance, wash hands, mask and be vaccinated. Protecting our students, staff and families is top priority. CW Administrator Ruth and teachers have made a plan to begin the 2022 school year cautiously and allow more students to be together as covid begins to exit Peru. The lead team has plans to split the classes a and school day so that one half of the student body will be in their classrooms at one time. We will monitor carefully how this goes and open up a little at a time. This will mean more school bus trips to transport girls safely to and from school and that will increase our budget to cover the gas. But this will be a workable plan or we will modify as needed.

Ruth met with all parents in a park to explain the new school plan and to explain rules for parents so they can enroll their daughters. All must be vaccinated and masked as we begin 2022. Those not showing proof of vaccination will not be able to register their daughters. Quickly parents scrambled to get vaccinated so we have almost 100 compliance in short order.
