Chicuchas Wasi sends you our heart filled Gratitude for standing with us during Covid. THANK YOU!
Chicuchas Wasi has so much to be grateful for as we look back over the last two years. Our students hung in there for 2 complete academic school years of home school with little more than a recycled cell phone with a tiny screen to receive assignments and talk to their teachers. CW teachers created a learning adventure for our students to make learning fun even if at home, but they missed their beloved school and classmates. In spite of the simplicity, all were promoted to the next grade level. None were held back for lack of teacher support.
Covid played out angrily throughout the Andean City of Cusco and many of our families got sick, and since families live several generations under one small roof - everyone got sick. All of our teachers, Director Ruth and their families all developed Covid, thankfully all are well again. The collective attitude of Hope, Faith, and creativity lifted us all up for 2 years. We are SO ready now to return to the classroom. CW school is waiting for the laugher!
With no social services in Cusco, every surge of Covid prompted a country lock-down to slow the spread. Families were unable to work so there was no money to buy food for the family. Together CW staff and leadership made a decision to provide monthly emergency food staples to our 97-100 families. Many CW supporters sent extra donations and 2 surprise grants arrived during 2020 & 2021 to support this food emergency ending now. What makes CW so special is that we are a seriously progressive school for girls, but we are really social workers too. YOU made such a difference for our families the last 2 years. I lack the words to show our appreciation. Thank you all.
Vaccinated citizens are now able to work so our final preparation and delivery of emergency food baskets has been delivered to our 97 families. Our Christmas celebration will be modest at home. We will resume our CW school meal program when the 2022 school year begins in March.
November 20 is GIVING TUESDAY this year.
