After 37 years of academic excellence for our students, CW is still hanging in there.
I try to share the CW news and reality (good or challenged) we face.
Sadly, this newsletter is very hard to put into words the ache in our hearts that I share now. Gloria was a lead teachers and the assistant school administrator with Ruth, suddenly passed away on May 8 from complications from long standing health issues. This shocking reality is difficult to accept. Gloria joined the CW team at 18 years of age as a volunteer, then an assistant teacher and finally earned her teaching credential -that was 30 years ago. The entire CW school and community who knew and loved her is in shock and numb, lovingly created her memorial at the school for all to attend and honor her. Flowers filled the patio were sent from all over to honor our much-loved Gloria, CW teacher and leader for 30 years.
Gloria's CW students comment:

You left and left a void in my heart but you will take and I will carry the beautiful memories of my childhood, teacher Gloria Vera Barrios. I couldn't say goodbye to you , thank you for the teaching you gave me and being the person I am now, fly high. You will always be in my heart
Mary; Mesicano; Kiara ; Lisa (all names are first names only)
I love you so much you were my second mom with that unconditional support .
Flordina (First name)
Prof Glorita I will always remember you for your support and your good advice for the unconditional love you have given me during my childhood my adolescence and now you leave a huge void in my heart, God took you so soon.
From heaven guide us to your daughters that we will remember you with that love you always gave us.

We had more VISITORS.
CW board member Efrain and member of CW for 30 years is also a professional tour guide and often leads visitors, who come to Cusco to learn about the rich Inca history and visit CW school. Sonoma’s EndWorldHunger -group was fortunate to have Efrain as their guide and school visit that included helping the families harvest our potato crop. The group photo shows them lined up on top.
The Peruvian School year began on March 4 with 100 girls enrolled in their corresponding grades. We maintain good contact with our alumnae girls who come often for support, just for hugs and to tel stories of beyond CW to the next graduating class.
We continue with our successful monthly morning parent class to expand their personal potential as well as that other daughters. The normal back to school excitement is once again in the air. During the summer break our teachers prepare workbooks for their students and take the annual academic teacher's class on the latest professional information and also enjoyed some free personal time.

OUR CHALLENGE NOW!
The news on the Maria school is slowly getting better. We wanted full enrollment, but we have a start with 3 students. We hired a professional (and pricy) marketing expert skilled in new school start-ups to attract parents of future college bound students to our modern new Maria School. We now have more students ready for next school year. But first our California board lawyer has a good idea: offer scholarships to all the new semester students - with a deposit and sign up commitment for the second semester. It is working!
FUTURE RISK FOR CHICUCHAS WASI SCHOOL for girls -
no charge to poor families:
The financial plan going forward for the Chicuchas Wasi school for girls has counted on the expected income from the Maria school to support both school operating budgets. We have a beginning with 3 students and more students interested for next year.
THE IMMEDIATE FINANCIAL PLAN FOR THE NEXT TWO YEARS: Continue to tighten our belt and keep the conversation current. Great new school!
Economically, we have the operating funds for the 2024 school.
THANK YOU! Thirty years ago I created an emergency fund that I am watching if we absolutely must touch it - if no income from the Maria plan. We are still dependent on our supporters to donate to buy some time to receive the Maria school enrolled.
But first our California board lawyer has a good idea: offer scholarships to all the new semester students - with a deposit and sign up commitment for the second semester. Our first 3 students have scholarship for this semester - so a good beginning.
Please hear our plea for a bit more help.
The global events of the last few years have seriously affected donations, our future and the legacy of 37 years of CW success continuing.
THANK YOU for donating
Your continued support makes the difference!

CW's future when the (tuition-based ) 'Maria Tuition School' classes are filled, will be self-supporting. Covid upset our plans to open the Maria school in 2020 due to strict lock-down that lasted 2 years. We will be enrolling Maria School's new students for March 2025 school year.
NOTE: I Thank you all for hanging in there with us. We have a little way to go yet but the impact of our work is self evident in the success of our girls...some are at the university today.
PLEASE DONATE
