Latha is an orphan girl child, looked after by her widowed mother. She is now doing her post graduate in clinical nutrition. She belongs to rural village area in Namakkal and from a dis-advantaged community. It is a common culture in her community that once girl attains puberty, they get her married off. When she was 14 years old, proposals came for her, but her mother was very firm in not getting her married. Though she had been ridiculed for the decision, she stood very firm that she will have her daughter educated as she realized the importance of education and had approached Buds of Christ, when Latha was in 8th standard. She has been receiving support with books and uniform during her schooling and currently for her college, the course fees, books and bags are supported.
Anu and Seetha are two orphan girls studying in the primary classes and under the care of their grandparents. Their father deserted them and their mother died when they were very small. Their grandfather has been bed ridden for the last 13 years after a stroke and the sole supporter for the children are their aged grandmother. Both the girls are also survivors of a chronic illness. They manage the household expenses through the old age pension scheme that comes through the social security scheme. The costs for bags, books and uniforms are a burden at the start of the academic year, which is now met through the educational support of Buds of Christ. This has helped the children go to school with wearing new uniforms and new bags and book like their other school mates.
Every academic year Buds of Christ provides support to ensure the girl children are in school and continue education and poverty should not be a hindrance to it. For 2019 academic year, Buds of Christ extended support to more than 60-orphaned girl children to light their lives and enable prevention of school dropouts.

Educational support for the young orphan girls are making a greater impact in helping the girls continue schooling despite the tough challenges that affect them. This year in March 2019, 11 girls have appeared for the Class 12 final Govt exams from families in which the adults have not even passed their school.
Shreena is 18 years old and is an orphan and looked after by her paternal grand father. Her mother died, when she was just 1 year old and her father also died at a very small age. The grand father supports the family with the income he gets through Iron pressing. The education and motivational support with uniform, note books, stationery materials and study notes through the GlobalGiving for the past years has helped Shreena not to burden her grandfather financially and completed her 12th standard, this year. She is planning to take up vocational course in beauty care and establish a centre on her own in her village.
Jothi is 17 years and is eldest daughter in the family. She has a sibling sister too and her both parents had died due to sickness, when they were very small. It has been her uncle's family who have taken both Jothi and her sister to be with their family. Buds of Christ continued to provide the educational support for both girls and this has helped Jothi to complete her 12th standard and she aspires to be a teacher.
There are many such young orphan girls from poor families who have been able to complete their schooling and are moving forward to pursue their childhood dreams. Without this support, these girls would have given into Child Marriages which is a constant pressure that comes from the relatives and neighbours particularly if they are orphan children. Buds of Christ Charitable Trust is able to reach out, protect and educate these unreached rural girls with the support of GlobalGiving. Thank you GlobalGiving donors for helping us make a meaningful impact in the lives of orphan girls.

Yashi is 17 year old girl living with her widowed mother. Yashi was born with the immune deficiency disease and is on lifelong medication. Her mother is also affected by it. She had been a below average student ,coupled with the side effects of the medication that affected her memory. At the same time ,she enjoyed schooling as she had lot of friends at school. She had failed in her 10th and that shattered all her hopes. But at the same time ,she was determined to complete the subjects she had failed.
Buds of Christ offered her support in partnership with GlobalGiving through the educational support programme in identifying a training centre close to her house and through regular coaching ,she cleared one subject and reappeared for the other subject ,after six months and cleared even that too. Now she has completed her 10th grade passing in all the subjects and is planning to take up vocational course in sewing and continue her schooling as well from next academic year. This will help her also develop a skill and support her family too.
Buds of Christ has been encouraging young orphan rural adolescent girls to complete their education. At the same time, some young girls due to their health concerns and other family situations are not able to perform well and for such girls special focus is being made by the staff through home visits and also support the girl child to complete her education.
