In our pediatric area, we address early childhood development by providing stimulation activities and therapy to help meet developmental milestones, which refers to the set of skills that the child develops, which comes from the maturation of the central nervous system (CNS) and interaction with the environment. These developmental skills are clearly identifiable and mark a new stage in the development of each child, through play and exploration.
Early stimulation goals:
Maintaining motor functions such as joint amplitudes, muscle tone, gross and fine motor skills, and functional use of the hand.
Maintaining or integrating sensory functioning: body schema, visual-spatial relationship, body integration, reflexes and sensitivity.
Cognitive functions: by exploring the environment and objects.
Affective / social relationships, with peers and caregiver.
Stimulation through play is fundamental for the evolution of the children’s development.
In the period from February to September 2021, occupational therapy was performed in an individualized manner to the children at Hogar Bambi, with each session lasting 45 minutes for each child. Specifically: 15 boys and 19 girls.
Dear Hogar Bambi Supporter,
Many of the children that arrive at Hogar Bambi Venezuela exhibit signs of malnutrition and developmental delays and have had limited access to pediatric care and standard child immunizations. This justifies the need to maintain and expand our programs and projects to address early childhood development and stimulation activities that support psychomotor development so that cognitive development and sensory-motor responses are not negatively impacted.
Over the course of 2021, 34 children received early stimulation and psychomotor interventions to address fine, gross, hyper and hypo motor skills, in order to improve and develop their sensory motor skills and self-regulation ability. This translates in better adaptive responses, improved grip, gravitational security, whilst satisfying key walking phases including altering steps and having the ability to go up and down stairs with altering steps. This supports better hand-eye coordination, including the ability perform bipodal vertical jumps, and unipedal jumps without losing balance.
Thanks to your donations, we at Hogar Bambi work daily to support the children we receive at our orphanage, most of whom arrive under-weight and / or with psychomotor delays as well as many other challenges. Through early stimulation combined with a well-balanced diet, and thanks to our great multidisciplinary team comprised of pediatricians, therapists, nurses, and our trained staff, we remain deeply committed to the wellbeing of our children.
Thank you for the support and on we go!
