Your support has great impact on MAVI’s employment program by contributing to promoting skill training, job placement support and offering valuable information to encourage workforce inclusion of people with disabilities. It has resulted in important changes in confidence, self-esteem and motivation which have been observed in many of the candidates who have begun this journey towards employment.
One of the participants whose life has been positively impacted is deaf. He had encountered many obstacles while trying to obtain a job due to lack of self-esteem and communication barriers encountered with employers. The skills obtained during his participation in the employment program prepared him to perform in different job scenarios and has boosted his confidence, resulting in the obtention of a job in Texas Roadhouse. It is important to mention, your support also helps train employers to promote increased awareness of the value and benefits of hiring people with disabilities plus offers technical assistance for reasonable accommodation alternatives when needed. This valuable information motivated this employer to discuss communication alternatives to ensure the hiring of this candidate, who is now successfully performing his work, finally obtaining his economic independence and inclusion in the workforce.
During this current year, eighty-two participants have enrolled in our program, with most candidates having completed most of the capacity-building stages of the program, acquiring valuable employment skills and soft skill training. Most are now in the process of developing their resume and rehearsing for the interview process. Some of the candidates, with significant disabilities, will be receiving additional training and the opportunity to practice these skills through a supervised internship to evaluate concepts learned and improve job readiness and retention. Currently, eight percent of the candidates are being interviewed for employment and forty-nine percent have already entered the workforce, resulting in improved living conditions and economic independence.
We still need your support to continue this important mission and expand our services. This program will continue training additional candidates to ensure more people with disabilities obtain the competencies for employment obtention and economic security. Help us further advance employment preparedness, and the inclusion of people with disabilities in the workforce and in community living.
