Practice Sessions are Going Well

By Beverley Jefferson | Project Leader

Lining up to shoot

Vingtong has been voluntarily spending a lot of his time organising practice sessions and acting as coach. He has set up a Facebook page and he also created the following report. (By the way, Vingtong is the third player from the front in the photo "Lining up to shoot".)

Wheelchair Basketball Information
• The wheelchair basketball practices have begun since the end of July, every week until now.
• Our team practices 3 days a week, Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at 5pm until 7pm. For the
entire project, we have planned to have 18 days of practice sessions. We are near the end of
the practice sessions.
• We have 4 teams. LDPA’s team, ADDP’s team, CMR’s team, and the Si Keud team.
• Each team has 6 people. There is a total of 24 players, although we also have some members of
the community that like to randomly join during practices.
• There are only 4 women. The rest of the players are men.
• We have 25 wheelchairs that are useable for practice and games.
• Our basketballs are still in fair condition. We have many.
• One concern is that not many women come to practices or games. They usually have to stay
home with their children. However, we would like to find some way for them to come practice
and have a team. There are really good women players, they just cannot always participate.
• Overall, the activity is very fun and many disabled and non-disabled are always interested to
come play during practices and games. It is a very fun and healthy social activity for the
community.

If you want to "like" Vingtongs facebook page, search for "Laos Wheelchairbasketbal Club Ldpa".

We have also had the offer from Mr Touffic Allouche to travel to Laos in December to run a clinic. He will already be running a clinic in nearby Thailand, so it would be quite cheap to get him to Laos from there, and he is offerring to come and do the work in return for an airfare, food and accomodation. However we did not manage to raise our original budget, so do not currently have the money.

If you are able to persuade friends to donate money to our project, please get them to do so now, so we can take advantage of this opportunity.

Kind regards,

Bev Jefferson
