Dear Supporter,
All children and young people need encouragement and support, as positive reinforcement can build their sense of self-worth and confidence. With your support and donations, we were able to support the young people in the Day Center for Children with Disabilities in Kukes, with the materials to design and make New Years’ Cards for their families and relatives. New Years’ Day is the major festive celebration in Albania when giving gifts and cards and family members gather to celebrate the new year with special foods.
Activities such as designing and making cards is important as it helps the children and youth to learn new techniques and encourage them to try new things, have fun, and see the results of their efforts.
They really enjoyed the work with the different coloured card, paints and decorative items and sharing with each other their designs and feelings by putting their ideas into the colorful New Year cards.
The smile and pride the children and youth took in their work is the best wish for you, who made this activity possible through your generosity.
Eda is 15 years old and has attended the Day Center for three years. She really enjoyed this activity because the Day Center is her only opportunity to attend somewhere and to do something creative out of her home. Eda and her family live in a remote area of Kukes; her parents try very hard to take her every day to the center otherwise Eda feels very upset and sad.
Eda has a really special relationship with her Mum, so she dedicated the New Year card to her. She chose the red card as that is her favorite colour and some sparkling decorations to represent Christmas and the New Year.
Some of the New Years’ cards were sent to the Social Services Department to wish the staff there a happy New Year.
