CAMBODIAN EYE MISSION

By DR CHRIS LYON | Project Leader

We are well underway for our planned November Eye Mission in Phnom Penh Cambodia.

This follows on from our recent Eye Mission to Vientiane , in Laos., where THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION assisted local Ophthalmologists to provide free lens replacements for hundreds of poor Cataract blind Laotions. In addition, training , similar to that which will be provided to Cambodian Eye residents in surgery, and glaucoma management was successfuly completed.. Photo can be seen below.

In Cambodia, THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION will be provinding donated lens implants to thE Children's Surgical Centre, which also serves adult Cambodians, providing surgeries, including cataract surgeries, for over 1000 Cambodians each year.

The second site is the University of Health Sciences (UHS), where Dr. Lyon, is a Visiting Clinincal Professor of Ophthalmology.

Here, at UHS , in addition to the cataract and glaucoma work, THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION, has introduced the Ophthalmology Residents to the international Fellowship program, IOFF,. This program combines advanceD Ophthalmology certification , together with three and twelve month Fellowships out-of-country at established Ophthalmology Teaching Hospitals throughout the world, in multiple Ophthalmology sub-specialties , such as retina, etc..

This expands the horizon of all the young SE Asian Ophthalmologists with exposure , learning and training , in the most up-to-date facilities. Upon completion of their international Felowwships, the Residents return to their home countries with increased confidence and ability to train their co-workers, and treat their own indigent people.

Thank you all for you continued support of bettering eye care in these third world countries.
