CAMBODIAN EYE MISSION

How do your funds help treat and cure blindness in Cambodia ?

Well, hopefully, the GlobalGiving staff are able to upload the photos we sent showing the clinics for the poor Cambodian childres who are receiving examination and treatment.

Training the Eye Doctors at these Clinics and at the teaching Hospitals in Pnomh Penh, Cambodia, is part of theservice provided by THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION.

In acknowledgement of Dr Lyon's work in helping educate the next generation of Eye Doctors, after the older generation of Eye Doctors were killed by the Khmer Rouge in their killing fields, Dr. Lyon was appointed to the faculty of the University of Health Sciences in Cambodia as Clinical Professor of Ophthalmology.

This voluntary teaching position is supported in part by your kind and generous contributions.

Also as is usual,on our last Eye Mission to Cambodia we helped supply hundreds of lens implants for the poor cataract patients at the CSC Hospital in Pnomh Penh, where additional training is provived through THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION

Cambodian Eye Mission- YOU help cure blindness

HOW YOUR HELP HELPS CURE BLINDNESS.Yes, blindness can not only be cured in many cases,but also prevented with proper eye care.

One of the hospitals THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION (please see more pictures on Facebook theblindnessfoundaton /newport beach ) we collaborate withh treats over 4000 disadvantaged patients a year in Phnom Penh, the capital city of Cambodia.

Our work entails training the young Eye Doctor Residents at Hospitals and the University of Health Sciences to improve the quality and reliability of eye care for the urban and rural poor. Their need is great, even in such basic training as optics, which is essential to understanding how cataract surgery and eyeglasses work.

THE BLINDNESS FOUNDATION has been invited back into Cambodia this fall and we will be getting over 200 cataract lens implants donated along with much needed medical/surgical supplies to cure the cataract blind in Phnom Penh.

One of the projects we have been asked to work with the local eye Doctors is the problem of cataracts occurring at a much earlier age in the people in Cambodia than what is seen here in the US.

Malnutrition in all its forms , including aberrations of the 'western' diet, together with lifestyle differences will be thoroughly reviewed to help the local Eye Doctors counsel and treat their patients more effectively.

So, this is where YOU the donor exert your effect on results. Shipping medical supplies is expensive and every donation counts. Reaching out and training the young Eye Doctors takes time and money, but the multiplier effect is great.

-As Dr Walter Reeed the discover of yellow fever was reputed to have said:-

" Alone as one Doctor I can treat and save 10 patients, but, if I train TEN Doctors , then I can treat and save ONE HUNDRED patients.".

So, please help make a difference in Cambodia and save someone's eyesight.
