The Conserve, Restore, Turkana Grazing Lands Project has been supported by the Pastoralists' ten committees and the surrounding pastoralists, including sedentary pastoralists from the ten communities. Save The Pastoralists Kenya (STP) and the pastoralists committees undertook to support the STP in opening its office in Lodwar Township in November 2025, which was graced by the Governor of Turkana County Government, who is also the patron of the organization. This was a strategic move to ensure that the Governor becomes part and parcel of the committee's conservation and protection of Lokitela Etuko Rangeland.
The communities and the communities have been supporting these conservation efforts through the following ways;
Protection: To support the conservation effort of the Lokitela Etuko rangeland and its riverine ecosystems the Ten pastoralists communities have been effective in the protection of the rangelands through presenting a memoranda to the His Excellency, Jeremiah Lomorukai of Turkana County of issues such as the setting rangeland as the only area within the Lodwar township ward to be set aside and protected for the use of the pastoralists communities for the grazing of their livestock.
Management: The committees and communities supported by the STP have developed Lokitela Etuko conservation and management approaches, including reseeding and tree planting to increase grass and vegetation cover and avert desertification. They also desired to have the construction of four water harvesting structures, mobilize communities to have sustainable land and water management intervention, conduct environmental education and awareness programs, and enhance the current community-based restoration initiatives.
Vigilance: The committees and the communities are at the forefront, conducting vigilante enforcement efforts to prevent the urban dwellers and expansionists from settling on the rangeland and prevent unplanned development.
Funding: The project cannot be implemented as planned due to insufficient funds to deliver all deliverables.
