Climate change have a devastating potential on the livelihood, health and well-being of the under-served population in Cameroon, especially farmers that depends on natural resources and agriculture for their livelihood. Cameroon has recently experienced decline in agriculture productivity, increased poor health and hunger, outcomes linked to flood, drought, hurricane, heat and rising sea levels which are all climate change events, impacting on the overall health and development of children and their communities.
Integrated Agricultural Association (IAA) is promoting intergenerational climate action and stewardship through climate literacy and environmental sustainability initiatives involving children of all ages and community adults, aimed at improving livelihoods, building sustainable food system and protecting biodiversity. IAA also distributed 2500 nitrogen fixing and trees of economic and medicinal value and 1000kgs of organic manure to smallholder farmers in Kumbo on the 18th of April 2024 to promote soil conservation, substitute chemical fertilizers and significantly reduce green house gas emission in agriculture. Little children between the ages of 4 and 7 were also engaged and received seedlings to plant with their parents so as to nurture love for nature and understanding of climate action and importance of trees on the environment and agriculture fields.
Integrated Agricultural Association (IAA) aims to restore over 200 ha of degraded farm land and save at least 1000 tons of CO2 through planting 150,000 trees by 2030. It is expected that through this initiative, smallholder farmers will be able to adapt and respond to climate shocks in the food sector, while building a strong climate stewardship for a community of diverse indigenous and ethnic groups and help sustainable food system, improve livelihoods, protect biodiversity and increase food security and economic opportunities for the under-served population.
Lack of funding is a challenge because IAA is a small organization with little or no steady financial and technical support. The financial goal for this initiative is $100,000 and IAA has raised $35 through globalgiving which is far below the funding need. We welcome donation of any amount through globalgiving that will help us go even further and create meaningful change in our community. Thank you for being part of our donor and support community, your continued support and donation ensures that we continue to protect our planet earth and everything found on it, for the present and future generation.
