2025 Annual Report: SparkREAD Trust

Year 2025 was a highly challenging one for SparkREAD Trust. All major funding streams ended in 2024, prompting a strategic shift from expansion to sustainability. Rather than launching new Community Girls Clubs, we prioritized maintaining existing ones by infusing them with locally relevant, globally resonant resources like climate change adaptation materials to better equip girls for Zimbabwe's evolving challenges.

Resource and Capacity Building

We capacitated clubs with practical tools blending local needs, such as drought resilience workshops and sustainable farming techniques, ensuring relevance for peri-urban girls aged 12–18. Volunteers including university students, student teachers, and counsellors sustained weekly sessions on vocational skills, SRHR, and life skills. Peer mentors (alumni girls who've "graduated" from the program) returned regularly to deliver peer learning and foster intergenerational support and leadership.

Participant Impact

New member Lidia, a Form 1 student, shared: "The clubs are fundamental. I get to meet peers, some in the same situation as I am. It’s a great platform to increase moral support and build confidence." Her story reflects the clubs' core value: creating safe spaces that combat isolation from GBV, child marriages, and exploitation while boosting emotional resilience.

Ongoing Commitment

As a cornerstone of our girls' empowerment programming, the Community Girls Clubs remain vital despite funding gaps. Alumni networks ensure their longevity. We gratefully acknowledge donors' sustained support and invite continued partnership—your contributions keep these havens thriving.
