The Community Girls Clubs aims to offer viable safe spaces for adolescents girls from a society where child sexual exploitation is rampant, gender based violence is the order of the day and a lot of emotional and physical abuse experienced by girls and young women.The Community Girls Clubs are safe havens for girls to come and innovate together, receive skills that will improve their economic stance, get educational assistance, receive one on one counseling services and psycho social support.
Many peri urban to peri urban communities are characterized by high crime rates, lack of recreational activities, overpopulation and unemployment amongst the youths.Girl children are more prone to child sexual abuse and exploitation perpetrated by close relatives. Poverty leads young parents to do vegetable vending to fend for their families whilst the children are left unattended in the community leading to school dropouts, teenage pregnancies and trafficking.
The Community Girls Clubs are a) safe hubs or safe spaces within the community for girls to have a haven outsource of their households and streets b) sexual reproductive and health information will be provided to avoid unplanned pregnancies and exposure to sexually transmitted diseases. c) instead of roaming in streets girls will learn an entrepreneurial skill d) a one stop to get assistance when sexually abused such as counseling,, legal aid, temporary shelter and psychosocial support
The Community Girls Clubs's long term impact is nurture a breed of girls and young women who are economically, socially and financially emancipated. Since it is a community run project it seeks to maintain a space(s) where information, knowledge and services are imparted from peer to peer from generation to generation. Creating a community where children's rights are protected and live to their fullest potential.
