Dear Partners/Funders
I would like to take this opportunity to greatly appreciate your efforts in contributing towards our fundraising campaign via GlobalGiving.
During the past few months, the Community Girls Club project has engaged in various activities and outreach programs.
We established a new Community Girls Club in the Ushewekunze area, and to celebrate this milestone, we hosted a Sports for Development Day filled with fun. Most importantly, adolescent girls and boys received valuable information about confidence building and sexual health. During this event, we also conducted a mini-campaign emphasizing the need to abolish harmful cultural and religious practices affecting children, particularly girls.
Additionally, in partnership with Young Africa in Epworth, we organized a series of suicide prevention seminars for our community girl members. The alarming rise in suicidal ideation and para-suicidal behavior among teenagers was concerning. With the assistance of qualified therapists, we held a seminar and provided group counseling for participants.
Our year has begun on a challenging note, as some of our funding was suspended due to the effects of the foreign aid freeze. Now more than ever, we appeal to our current donors to continue supporting us and encourage your community to contribute to our campaign. Every penny counts in securing the future of the girl child.
A quote from a Community Girls Club member, Paida (pseudonym): “Before joining this club, I was clueless about sexual abuse. I only discovered I was being molested by a family friend. I’m grateful that SparkREAD investigated my issue and ensured my safety. The club has been my lifesaver after years of abuse since I was a toddler.”
