Dear Funders and Partners,
The Community Girls Clubs aim to provide viable and safe spaces for adolescent girls living in a society where child sexual exploitation is rampant, gender-based violence is commonplace, and many girls and young women experience emotional and physical abuse. These Clubs serve as safe havens where girls can come together to innovate, acquire skills to improve their economic standing, and receive educational support.
Below is a story of one of our members: Tatenda* is a young girl living in a peri-urban area of Harare. Every day after school, she attends a Community Girls Club project housed at a local church. There, she meets other girls her age and starts with a little play outside traditional Shona games such as pada. Tatenda plays comfortably, knowing that although she faces many challenges at home, this space provides her with a safe environment where she can play, get assistance with her homework, and receive peer support.
We would also like to take this opportunity to inform our dearest supporters that, due to the foreign aid freeze, our organization and initiatives have been facing challenges. Nonetheless, let’s walk together as we navigate towards addressing the plight of girl children in our communities in a sustainable manner.
In the coming months we will be launching clubs in various underprivileged communities, hence your support at this time will go a long way.Thank you for your continued support.
With gratitude
Angeline Makore and Team SparkREAD
