Sustaining Our Commitment to Clean Water

By Hannah Edor | Programs Officer

OVERVIEW

Access to safe water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) remains central to the work of Young Visionary Leaders Ghana (YVLG). Although we have not raised significant funding through GlobalGiving during this reporting period, our commitment to improving WASH access for underserved communities remains strong.

Limited resources have constrained our ability to expand project activities. However, with support from other partners, we continue to advocate for increased investment in WASH and build support for our long-term vision.

PROJECT UPDATE

1. Advocating for Increased Investment in WASH

Addressing gaps in water, sanitation and hygiene requires sustained investment and collaboration. YVLG continues to work with partners to advocate for greater attention and resources for WASH.

Our advocacy aims to keep community needs visible and encourage investment in sustainable solutions. While these efforts have not yet translated into substantial funding for this project, they remain an important part of building support for future implementation.

2. Hosting the African Youth Water Forum Secretariat

YVLG currently hosts the Secretariat of the African Youth Water Forum (AYWF), a youth-led continental network advancing water justice, meaningful youth participation and sustainable water governance across Africa.

Through this role, we support coordination and engagement that brings youth voices into water discussions. It also provides opportunities to connect with partners and contribute to broader advocacy for increased WASH investment.

This work complements our community-focused vision by supporting youth participation in decisions that shape access to water and sanitation.

CHALLENGES AND LESSONS

Fundraising remains a key challenge. The limited amount raised through GlobalGiving restricts what we can deliver and how quickly we can expand our work.

Partnerships and advocacy help us sustain momentum, but dedicated project funding is still needed to turn shared priorities into practical improvements for communities. Our experience reinforces the importance of combining community-level work with continued advocacy, partnership development and resource mobilisation.

LOOKING AHEAD

Our priorities are to strengthen partnerships, continue advocating for increased WASH investment and mobilise resources for community interventions. Through our hosting of the AYWF Secretariat, we will also continue supporting youth engagement in water and sanitation discussions.

As resources become available, we aim to translate these efforts into expanded practical support for communities. We will continue to keep our supporters informed about progress, challenges and opportunities to contribute.

THANK YOU FOR KEEPING THE VISION ALIVE

To everyone who has donated, shared our project or encouraged our work: thank you. Progress has been slower than we hoped, but the vision remains unchanged a future where communities can access safe water, sanitation and hygiene.

Please consider donating or sharing this project with your network. Your continued support can help us turn our commitment into lasting improvements for communities.
