Today, we would like to feature another recipient of the Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship. Terresa is a graduate of the Mercy In Action College of Midwifery who has been helped by the Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship. She is from the Western Cherokee Nation, and we are all so proud to now call her a CPM Midwife Colleague, as she recently took and passed the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) exam. Congratulations Terresa and welcome to the profession of midwifery!

Donors like you make these students' successes possible!  Thank you for your donations, in memory of Claudia, to this vital scholarship fund. Claudia was passionate about helping raise up midwives of color to serve their own populations in America. Through this scholarship fund, we are increasing access to midwifery all across this nation.

Your support of this scholarship has been a priceless help to students in Mercy In Action College of Midwifery who are working toward their educational goals, with the end goal in mind of helping to improve the health and health care of vulnerable families around the time of pregnancy and childbirth.

Gratitude, Blessings, and Love are sent your way with this update!

Today we want to use this update report to introduce Zilmillia, one of our latest graduates of the Mercy In Action College of Midwifery, and a recipient of the Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship.

Zilmillia is a newly minted midwife who has been helped by the Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship, both with her initial midwifery education, and again as she prepares to take the board exam to become a CPM midwife - the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) exam. We wish her all the best.

Your support of this scholarship has been a priceless help as our Mercy In Action students work toward their educational goals, with the end goal in mind of helping to improve the health and health care of vulnerable families around the time of pregnancy and childbirth.

I am sending out this project report one week before the first anniversary of Claudia Booker's death on February 19, 2020.  Like so many who knew and loved her, I find I miss my friend every day, even a year after her passing from this life. So it is with joy and sadness that I report the great things Mercy In Action College of Midwifery has been able to do for Black and Indigenous student midwives in her name this past year.

Because of this scholarship fund in Claudia's honor, 20 students received a total of 23 micro-grants to help them financially with their midwifery schooling at  Mercy In Action College of Midwifery. 18 students receiving scholarships identify as African American/Black, and two are from American Indian/Alaska Native tribes. The reason this scholarship is so impactful is that these are the two communities in America that lose more babies and mother's lives at birth than any other race or ethnicity.

On February 19th, we remember our friend Claudia and how hard she fought for safe motherhood and newborn survival for all during her lifetime. This scholarship in her name would make her so proud!

Maybe today you would consider a one-time donation, or sign up to become a monthly donor to this Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship fund, to help these students finish strong and become the midwives their communities are waiting for.

Thank you and many blessings,

The Mercy in Action College of Midwifery staff and faculty

So proud of this scholarship in Claudia's name!

Dear Supporters,

We wanted to give a report on exciting news this week; after we made the appeal on Juneteenth to match the money our founders donated toward helping our midwife students who are Black, Indigenous or People of Color, supporters and allies came through in a big way!

Sixty-nine individuals donated almost $6,000, so when added to the initial donation by Scott and Vicki Penwell, our funds came to more than $11,000 to support our BIPOC students this coming school year!

We wish Claudia Booker was here on earth so we could call her and hear the happiness in her voice to know that 69 good people care about racial disparity around childbirth, and want to see more midwives trained to serve the communities that are hurting right now.

Thanks for your support in this campaign, and thanks for your continued prayers for our students to succeed! Knowing this many people are behind them is sure to be a big encouragement to them, beyond the financial help.

Blessings and Love,

The Mercy In Action Team
