Thank you for your continued support of this project that is effectively increasing midwifery education access to the populations who are suffering the highest rates of maternal and newborn mortality and morbidity around childbirth in America - African American/Black and American Indian and Alaska Natives. We are delighted to share that another Claudia Booker Memorial Scholarship recipient has completed the academic and clinical requirements and is scheduled to graduate this month from Mercy in Action College of Midwifery!
Ashley is a mother of 5 children and is passionate about providing equitable maternity care in her community. She has epitomized dedication as a student in our program. For her art project (see the picture below!), she created a quilt with bar graphs that tell the statistical story of maternal and infant mortality in her county. She worked hard and is scheduled to graduate this month, a semester early! After graduation, she plans to continue working as a staff midwife at West Michigan Midwifery while simultaneously pursuing a Master's degree to further her education. We are confident that Ashley will have a profound impact on her community.
Ashley lives with an awareness that the maternal crisis for women and infants continues in her community and around the country. We are so grateful to be able to provide excellent and compassionate training in midwifery to those who will make a difference by providing competent, respectful care. Your donations make it possible to continue to offer the Claudia Booker Memorial Midwife Scholarship to students like Ashley, who are working hard to become midwives and improve outcomes in their communities.
