Krupa's Picture

Dear Esteemed Patrons,

Greetings to you from HEARDS - India!

Here I am sharing a Case of Krupa who lives in a 10ft. X 10 ft. hut in Prashant Nagar slum. Her father is an Electrician but unfortunately addicted to alcohol and always behaves violent at home and her mother left the family because of her father's torture. So in 2014, she and her brother went to live with their grandmother, who took Krupa out of school and put her to domestic work. She was 13 at that time. The brother continued in Government school.During the initial stages her grand mother was reluctant to send Krupa to the child labour rehabilitation centre.

After repeated visits from our HEARDS staff and team persuaded the grandmother to send Krupa to our child labour rehabilitation centre. Krupa’s health and grades improved over one year. In 2015, she was mainstreamed IX Grade in govt. school, got good grades and became class leader. She has completed her 10th Grade in March 2017, but wants to study further.  She passed 10th Grade in flying colors.  This year she joined in Intermediate Education at B.S.Kannan Junior Government College.  She joined in MPC Group.  She wants to study further and her life ambition is to become a Collector.  HEARDS will make it a point to track her progress, as we do with our other children.

Our Animators monthly follow up to know the status of Krupa in B.S.Kannan Government College was remarkable because now she became the class leader for her class.  All the lecturers in the college along with the Principal was appreciating HEARDS staff for their stringent effort in making a working child mainstreaming her to a normal regular school and later to the Junior College.  Apart from that Krupa was coping up with regular college going children very well.  Even the grand mother of Krupa was quite happy to know about the status of her child and she promised that she will never discontinue her from studies and she will make her study as much as she is interested to study.

HEARDS urges poor families to send their children to school instead of work.  This is the age to play and learn, not work!.  Like Krupa there were more success stories which will be shared in our future reports.  The organisation will be monitoring the project in all the stages to sustain the project activities.

Thanking you,

With best wishes and fond regards,
