We are about to end 2019 and Wasi Esperanza has taken care of more than 100 poor children with physical disabilities, one of them is Henderson who really enjoyed our Christmas party.
He is a new patient who entered in October, he is 7 years old and he was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy type quadriplegia. Henderson lives together with his parents and three siblings.
The social worker visits the home of all the patients of Wasi Esperanza to confirm the provided information and determine goals to improve their homes. As a result of this we were able to see the great effort that the parents make to bring Henderson to therapy, since they live on a hill and they have to cross two rivers that don’t have bridges to get to their home.
Every Thursday they get up at 4 in the morning to start their walk. They cross the rivers whilst taking advantage that in the morning the water is frozen and the rivers have less flow. After this, they walk to the highway and wait for the car that brings them to the city. When his therapy has finished, they have to return home. Because of the conditions of the rivers in the evening, the family isn’t able anymore to cross them. So, they are forced to stay over in a place nearby their home.
The parents hope that the therapy will help their child to improve, so he can at least sit down and is able to chew food, so their quality of life can improve.
