El 13 de julio de 2018, 100 niños, niñas y adolescentes de 7 comunidades de San Luis Potosí se reunieron durante una semana para poder preparar un concierto único, que a todos nos sorprendería.
Después de una preparación ardua, mucho trabajo y horas de ensayo, se seleccionaron 100 niños, niñas y adolescentes de las diferentes agrupaciones del Sistema MUVI, conformando la edición 2018 de la Orquesta MUVI. Estos seleccionados prepararon un repertorio en específico para ser estudiado y ensayado una semana antes del esperado concierto.
El repertorio fue muy variado y el resultado maravilloso, teniendo un lleno total en el Teatro de la Paz, una gran calidad musical y grande sorpresa para todos los asistentes.
Este evento es una motivación y un resultado del trabajo diario que realizan tanto profesores/as, como padres/madres de familia y los alumnos/as de las comunidades.
Para muchos de los participantes, esta fue la primera vez que conocieron la capital potosina y tuvieron la oportunidad de tocar en uno de los teatros más importantes de México.
En la experiencia previa al concierto, los niños y niñas tuvieron la oportunidad de conocerce entre ellos, generar un sentido de pertenencia con el Sistema MUVI, fortalecer habilidades para la vida y los aprendizajes musicales aprendidos durante toda su estancia con MUVI.
El concierto de la Orquesta MUVI 2018 es un pretexto para fortalecer el tejido social en San Luis Potosí, así como una motivación para que los y las participantes sigan teniendo la oportunidad de transformar sus vidas a través de la música.

On July 13, 2018, 100 children from 7 communities of San Luis Potosí met for a week to prepare a unique concert, which would surprise us all.
After an arduous preparation, a lot of work and hours of rehearsal, 100 children and adolescents from different groups of the MUVI System were selected, forming the 2018 edition of the MUVI Orchestra. These selected, prepared a specific repertoire to be studied and rehearsed a week before the expected concert.
The repertoire was very varied and the result wonderful, having a full house at the “Teatro de la Paz”, one of the most important theatres of the country. Great musical quality and great surprise for all the attendees.
This event is a motivation and a result of the daily work done by teachers, parents, and students of the communities.
For many of the participants, this was the first time they met the capital of Potosí and had the opportunity to play in one of the most important theaters in Mexico.
In the pre-concert experience, the children had the opportunity to get to know each other, generate a sense of belonging with the MUVI System, strengthen life skills and musical learnings learned throughout their stay with MUVI.
The concert of the Orchestra MUVI 2018 is a pretext to strengthen the social fabric in San Luis Potosí, as well as a motivation for the participants to continue having the opportunity to transform their lives through music.

Algunos de los y las jóvenes que participan en el Sistema MUVI han decidido seguir el camino de la música, estudiar una licenciatura musical y ser músicos profesionales.
Este sueño, que antes se veía lejano y poco posible, se ha vuelto una realidad: en agosto, muchos de ellos comenzaran sus estudios profesionales en la música. Sumando al sueño de poder dedicarte a la música, poder conocer a uno de tus grandes íconos musicales se puede convertir en una de las mejores experiencias de tu vida.
Esto les paso a un alumno y a una alumna del Sistema MUVI, los cuales fueron seleccionados para participar en Encuentros. México y las Américas unidos a través de la música, encuentro en el que participaron una selección de alrededor de 300 niños, niñas, jóvenes y adultos representando a 96 agrupaciones musicales comunitarias y otras agrupaciones musicales del país. En la selección de participantes, se unieron alrededor de 40 niños, niñas y jóvenes provenientes de Argentina, Canadá, Estados Unidos, Puerto Rico, República Dominicana y Venezuela, patrocinados por la Fundación Dudamel.
Violeta y Juan Manuel , pudieron tomar clases magistrales con grandes músicos de la Orquesta Filarmónica de Viena y fueron dirigidos po rel prestigioso director, Gustavo Dudamel.
El poder convivir con tantos músicos el amor por la música y por una América mejor es una acción que es posible unir a través de estos Encuentros, que buscan construir comunidades más conscientes, empáticas, comunitarias y solidarias.
La música une, crea, florece. La música nos ha transformado y está transformando.

Some of the young people who participate in the MUVI System have decided to follow the path of music: study a musical degree and be professional musicians. This dream, which once seemed distant and unlikely, has become a reality: in August, many of them began their professional studies in music. Aside from being able to dedicate yourself to music, being able to meet one of your great musical icons can turn into one of the best experiences of your life. This happened to two students of the MUVI System, who were selected to participate in Encuentros: Violeta and Juan Manuel. Mexico and the Americas, united through music, gathered a committee represented by 300 people: children, youth, and adults of 96 different community musical groups and other musical groups in the country. In the selection of participants, around 40 children and young people from Argentina, Canada, United States, Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic and Venezuela, sponsored by the Dudamel Foundation, joined. Violeta and Juan Manuel took outstanding classes with great musicians of the Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra and the prestigious director, Gustavo Dudamel directed them. The power to live with so many musicians, the love for music and a better America is an action that takes place through these Encounters, and it is only possible using music to build more conscious, empathetic and supportive communities. Music unites, creates, flourishes. Music has transformed us and is transforming.
La Pila es una delegación de la capital de San Luis Potosí que se encuentra en la periferia. Es considerada una zona con alto índice de violencia y narcotráfico. Debido a estas características, decidimos instalarnos ahí hace un año y medio con una Orquesta Sinfónica Juvenil para fortalecer el tejido social y ofrecer a los niños, niñas y adolescentes una oportunidad de recreación, desarrollo comunitario y aprendizaje musical. Las clases son gratuitas y los instrumentos son prestados a los y las participantes.
Desde un inicio, la respuesta de la comunidad fue inmediata, teniendo alrededor de 130 niños, niñas y adolescentes acudiendo de lunes a viernes de 4 a 8 de la tarde. La Orquesta cada día se consolidaba y generaba un impacto social en la comunidad, siendo un referente musical y un espacio seguro para La PIla.
El 6 de diciembre de 2017, amanecimos con una noticia muy triste. Nos robaron 50 instrumentos y artículos musicales de la bodega en donde se guardaban los instrumentos de esta Orquesta. Nos sorprendió mucho la noticia a todos, tanto a La Pila, como a los demás núcleos del Sistema MUVI (Ciudad Valles, Matehuala, Charcas, Venado, Matehuala y Villa de Reyes).
En un principio, la noticia generó una gran aflicción en todos los que formamos parte de esta gran familia. Pero las personas comenzaron a solidarizarse inmediatamente y a tratar de apoyar desde la trinchera en donde estaban:
Los distintos núcleos se solidarizaron, ofreciendo instrumentos que no se encontraban en uso para que los y las participantes de La Pila no se quedaran sin sus clases y sin tocar.
Instituciones y organizaciones se sumaron en colectas para gestionar dinero para comprar nuevos instrumentos.
Los y las estudiantes de la Orquesta de la Pila, realizaron diferentes carteles para mostrar su fortaleza y ganas de seguir luchando por una comunidad mejor.
Hoy, consideramos que a partir de este hecho, podemos constatar que el proyecto MUVI verdaderamente genera empatía, solidaridad, trabajo en equipo y cohesión comunitaria.
A partir de este difícil hecho, podemos decir que hoy, más que nunca, La Pila está fortalecida y dispuesta a cambiar al mundo, un músico a la vez.

La Pila is a delegation from the capital of San Luis Potosí located on the outskirts. It is considered an area with a high rate of violence and drug trafficking.
To strengthen the social fabric and offer children and adolescents an opportunity for recreation, community development, and musical learning we decided to place a Youth Symphony Orchestra in this area. The school provides classes for free with instruments supplied by us.
From the beginning of the project, we had a positive and immediate response from the community. The program has 130 children and adolescents that attend classes from Monday to Friday from 4 to 8 in the afternoon. Every day, the Orchestra has consolidated and generated a social impact in the community, being a musical reference and a safe space for La Pila.
On December 6, 2017, we woke up with unfortunate news; 50 instruments and musical items were stolen from the winery where the instruments of this Orchestra are kept. The report was shocking to everyone, both to La Pila and to the other nuclei of the MUVI System (Ciudad Valles, Matehuala, Charcas, Venado, Matehuala and Villa de Reyes).
At first, the news generated great affliction in all of us who are part of this great family. But people began to show solidarity immediately and to give support in several ways:
The different nuclei showed sympathy, offering instruments that were not in use so that the participants of La Pila would not be left without their classes and without touching.
Institutions and organizations joined in collections to manage money to buy new instruments.
The students of the Orchestra of the Pila, made different posters to show their strength and desire to continue fighting for a better community.
All the support and help received after the news, has proven that the MUVI project has generated empathy, solidarity, teamwork and community cohesion. Today, we can say that La Pila is a stronger community and it is ready to change the world, one musician at a time.

ENCUENTRO ORQUESTA MUVI
A principios de noviembre de 2017, 75 niños, niñas y adolescentes de 6 municipios del estado de San Luis Potosí se reunieron por primera vez en un encuentro para conformar la Orquesta MUVI, selección de alumnas y alumnos del Sistema MUVI.
El Encuentro tuvo lugar en un campamento cercano a la capital potosina llamado Berrendos. Este campamento se caracteriza por ser un amplio terreno con diferente mobiliario para hacer actividades de recreación al aire libre. Tiene una alberca, un río artificial para practicar kayak, un área de obstáculos con lodo, canchas de futbol y básquet, entre otras cosas. Los niños y niñas dormían en cabañas separadas entre hombres y mujeres, teniendo un máximo de 15 participantes en cada una.
Para todos los integrantes de la Orquesta MUVI, fue la primera vez en vivir una experiencia de este tipo, en un campamento donde pudieron convivir, fortalecer aprendizajes musicales, conocer y hacer amistad con niños y niñas de otros municipios y trabajar para un objetivo particular y en común.
El Encuentro culminó con dos conciertos en un centro cultural muy grande y conocido en San Luis Potosí llamado Centro Cultural Universitario Bicentenario. Se contó con la dirección de un maestro invitado que dirigió a la Orquesta MUVI: Antonio Malavé, director musical y coordinador de la Red Orquestal Río Nuevo en Mexicali.
Tanto el encuentro, como los conciertos dejaron una gran experiencia y aprendizaje en los 75 niños, niñas y adolescentes seleccionados. Pudieron generar y fortalecer un sentido de pertenencia e identidad al Sistema MUVI, se hicieron fuertes lazos de compañerismo y se generó una cohesión social importante entre todos y todas.
MUVI ORCHESTRA MEET

In November 2017, 75 kids and teenagers coming from six municipalities within the state San Luis Potosí got together for the very first time to form the MUVI Orchestra, a symphonic orchestra made up of selected MUVI System students.
They met on the grounds of camp Berrendos, near San Luis Potosí City, for about a week. The camp has ample fields and is suited for diverse outdoor activities. There is a large swimming pool, a kayaking stream, a mud run, soccer fields, and basketball courts, among other things. The students slept in single-gender cottages of up to 15 occupants each.
For all members of the MUVI Orchestra this had been a first time experience, staying and rehearsing in a camp that fostered conviviality, musical learning, and the chance to make friends with other boys and girls from all over the state, while working on a common goal.
The meet came to an end with two concerts at the Centro Cultural Universitario Bicentenario, a large, well-known venue in the city. Antonio Malavé, musical director and coordinador for the Red Orquestal Río Nuevo, in Mexicali, was guest director for the MUVI Orchestra.
Both the meet and the concerts made for a wonderful learning experience for the 75 selected students. They all were able to strengthen a sense of identity and belonging to the MUVI System, strong friendship ties were made, and important social cohesiveness arose among all.

Gracias al apoyo que tú y muchas más personas nos han confiado, hemos logrado crecer y cambiar vidas en diferentes comunidades de San Luis Potosí.
En San Luis Potosí y en México, el índice de deserción escolar en el nivel medio-superior es muy alto, principalmente en municipios alejados de la capital potosina. En promedio, para la población entre los 15 años y más, la educación es de segundo de secundaria. De cada 100 personas de este grupo etario, 19.7 terminaron su educación media superior.
A partir de diferentes estudios sobre la música, se ha encontrado que la música tiene un factor único para potencializar los aprendizajes de una persona, entre ellos los que adquiere en la educación obligatoria.
Hemos notado que los niños, niñas y adolescentes que participan en el programa Música para la Vida, aprenden a organizarse mejor, potencializan sus calificaciones y aprenden a ser críticos.
En el cierre del ciclo 2016-2017, varios de nuestros alumnos/as terminaron su bachillerato e ingresaron en diferentes licenciaturas. Todos los participantes de Música para la Vida terminaron su nivel medio superior y el 90% ingresó a la Universidad.
Es así que podemos afirmar que la Música verdaderamente es una herramienta de transformación social y que tu ayuda ha sido invaluable para que esto suceda.
Asimismo, a través de este acercamiento musical, 7 de nuestros alumnos/as decidieron seguir el camino de la música para sus vidas. Estamos muy contentos en compartir que 5 de ellos fueron aceptados en la Facultad de Música de la Universidad Autónoma de Zacatecas; 1 de ellos en la Facultad de Música de la Universidad Veracruzana en Jalapa; y una de ellas en la Universidad Autónoma de Tamaulipas.

Thanks to support from you and others, we’ve grown and changed lives of communities in the Mexican state of San Luis Potosi.
Both in San Luis Potosi and Mexico as a whole, the high school dropout rate is very high, specially in rural areas. In San Luis Potosi, on average, people 15 years old and up have an 8th grade education, and out of 100 people 15 years and up only 19.7 finished high school.
Different studies have found music to bring about a unique potential to strengthen a person’s learning abilities, among them, those relating to everyday schoolwork.
We’ve noticed boys, girls, and teenagers in the Música para la Vida program learn to become better organizers, critical thinking individuals, and their grades improve.
By the end of the 2016-2017 school year, several of our music students both graduated from highschool and went on to enroll in college. All of our former students graduated from highschool and 90% of them got into college.
Thus, we can say music truly is a tool for social change, and also that your help has been invaluable and essential for this to happen.
Furthermore, through this musical approach, seven of our students have decided to pursue music professionally. We are very happy to share with you that five of them were accepted by the Music School of the Autonomous University of Zacatecas; another by the Music School of the Veracruzana University in the city of Jalapa, and another by the Autonomous University of Tamaulipas.
