Davd: lawyer, teacher and musician

}In the last reports, we mainly recounted the life of the Foundation students. We wanted to give you the experience of all the people who work in the Project.. The work that the instructors do, is truly remarkable.

David wakes up early everyday so he can make it to the office, he starts the day with letters, written memos, meetings, comings and goings. As he is a lawyer, he is wearing a suit and tie, and we can see him downtown, taking documents or attending meetings. His smile is always there, always the same, plain and honest.

Every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, he has an appointment in Moctezuma with 21 children from 4 to 8 pm. The road from San Luis to Moctezuma takes about 2 hours. However, the commitment is firm. There’s not even a blink. The suit and the tie disappear, and now he wears a black t-shirt and a Base Ball cap, jeans and sneakers can’t miss.

It began one of the most delightful activities for David: sharing Music. His percussion students wait for him: “Teacher, what are we going to do today?”. David has already prepared his class. The lessons, the games, the jokes, and, why not?, some scolding…

At the same time, David is the Administration Coordinator of the Moctezuma Symphonic Band. It is his job to solve the day-to-day logistic problems. He also organizes the teachers, seeking to offer the kids a holistic musical education. With all the teachers’ staff, they have made in Moctezuma a strong symphonic band.

Coming back from Moctezuma, David has night rehearsal with his worldmusic group: Pamalanga, where he has played the drums for more than 10 years. Music is within him; it has changed his life, so he is trying to share his experience with the girls and boys he works with.

Commuting more than four hours per day three times per week is not easy, but the conviction that he is working for the welfare of the community, in a drive that has touch more than 1,000 families, keeps him moving offering high quality education. Trying to do 3 jobs to offer the best of himself is a decision that David has made to share the gift of music.

We are very grateful to all the teachers who are truly committed with themselves and the society where they show their will to work daily for the community.

We go on changing the world one musician every day.

“Música para la Vida” has made an impact in more than 1000 children of different communities of San Luis Potosí, México. Since 2013, we have heard many strong and meaningful stories of the transformation that children and their parents had experienced. Music has giving us a beautiful gift: creating COMMUNITY.

Following this path, we are very happy with the opening of a new orchestra and choir that is searching to impact more than 200 children. This community is “La PIla”, a place that is in the urban periphery of San Luis capital. Even tough is near the capital, it is characterized with its huge segregation because of its low basic offer education; very few cultural classes or activities; highly percentage of insecurity because organized crime; and its nearest to the State Penitentiary. All these factors had made of “La Pila”, an unknown and unmentionable place of San Luis Potosí.

The bet of a symphonic orchestra and a choir offers a beautiful and promising options of social inclusion in which the youngsters can develop musical, personal and collective abilities that will benefit the hall population of “La Pila”.

“La Pila” started on the second semester of 2016, it has more than 6 months playing, with more than 100 children and a staff of highly professional teachers.

Thanks to the support of so many people we can continue to offer music to more youngsters in all the state of San Luis Potosí. Thank you!

ENGLISH

Demetrio is a sixteen years old boy who plays the oboe since 2013 in the Foundation. He, like so many other children were at the project start-up, giving their enthusiasm, love and dedication to this dream that is changing lives through music.

Demetrio showed, since the beginning, a lot of effort and enthusiasm at playing the oboe, little by little he started to develop different social and musical skills for his family, the orchestra and himself. Despite some economic difficulties, Demetrio is one of the most committed students of the Foundation. He reflected that his love to music, his instrument and the Foundation, were characteristic features of himself.

The 27th of November of 2016, we realized a benefit concert, in which the “Musica para la Vida Symphony Orchestra” performed a lovely concert with more than 13 pieces. The orchestra had 100 kids of Villa de Reyes, Charcas, Ciudad Valles and Matehuala. They played for 1300 people in a big theatre of San Luis Potosí.

Among the repertoire, it was the 1st scene of the Swan Lake ballet of P. Tchaikovsky, in which a solo oboe is well known. Demetrio commented to the musical director that his dream was playing that solo, but the orchestra decided to select another girl to play it. Demetrio got a little sad, but he still showed a lot of love to the decision of all.

One day before the concert, the girl who was elected, decided not to play that piece, offering the solo to Demetrio. At the first  rehearsal, his solo sounded beautiful.

The concert day, the emotion and happiness were through the roof; all the children were enjoying their moment. At the 5th piece, Armando –the musical director- lifted his baton and the violins started to sound, following the solo oboe. Demetrio captivated the hole orchestra and the theatre. Armando called Demetrio to the front, congratulating and hugging him.

Demetrio was full of emotion and happiness, tears in his eyes showed us that with moments like these, we are really Changing the World through Music.

Thank to all our supporters.

Penasco
Penasco's landfill

Peñasco is a community in San Luis Potosí periphery. It is known like “San Luis dump” because it is the main landfill of the city. Most of the people who live there, work by recollecting and separate garbage. It is a tradition that the sons and daughters of the garbage women start working as well since they are little kids.

In this context, many kids don’t finish elementary school and start working with their mothers. The idea of offering a different option of occupying their time is the reason that we started a choir in this place. We have almost 4 months working in this place, offering music as a way of development different musical and social abilities, giving them confidence, love and support.

We had notice that Juanito is receiving this support. He is a 10 years old boy who started going to Peñasco’s choir in May. He is one of the most committed children of this musical aggrupation. When he starts singing his whole body starts to move, a smile grow in his face and his enthusiasm spread to the entire classroom.

“I want to propose a game, I want to propose a game” he started telling Adriana, the choir teacher. “And how is this game, Juanito?” Adriana responds.  “It is call I miss so much, and all in the classroom have to tell who they miss more in the entire world. For example I miss so much my mom”.

Juanito’s mom doesn’t live with him because she works in the city, so she left Juanito to her sister in Peñasco. During vacations is the only time that Juanito can see his mom.

Because to Adriana and Angelina (Peñasco’s teachers), Juanito started trusting them, little by little he started open his big heart and music give him an opportunity to explain and explore his feelings, he started to know that there are people who want to listen him.

Thank to your support, more children have the chance to know music, to explore his capabilities and develop different abilities. Thank you to support this cause!
