Happy Valentine's Day to our wonderful supporters!
If you'd like to share your love with family and friends in a meaningful way this Valentine's Day, you can make a donation to our Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network project via Global Giving, and have a Valentine's Day Card Gift Card sent to the loved ones in your life. If you want to customize the card you can choose the option of adding our darling photo of a seal pup that is posted at the top of our project page.
Thanks to your generosity, our Central Puget Sound Marine Mammal Stranding Network has been able to continue our work to respond to and investigate marine mammal strandings in the Salish Sea in Washington State.
This Sunday, our Marine Mammal Veterinarian, Stephanie Norman, DVM, MS, PhD, and CPSMMSN team members and Orca Network board members Sandra Dubpernell and Jill Hein, spent the morning conducting necropsies on a Harbor porpoise calf, seal pup, and taking a look inside a dogfish, to learn more about the shark family in order to help with research being conducted on sixgill sharks in our area. Joining in on the necropsy session for training on marine mammal necropsy was Dr. Parent, a Whidbey Island veterinarian who has assisted our stranding network in the past; and Dr. Carl Wigren, a forensic pathologist from Seattle. By training others in the marine mammal investigation field, we grow our network and often receive future assistance from those we've trained.
We are also currently working toward receiving funding to continue and expand our research into dioxin pollutants in marine mammals and the Salish Sea environment - we'll update you soon with more information on this important project!
We just wanted to update you on our project, and share our love with you on Valentine's Day, and thank you again for your support - we couldn't do this without your help ~
