Executive Summary The Catch Them Young project by Asustem Robotics is an early-intervention STEM education initiative aimed at introducing children and adolescents to robotics, programming, and emerging technologies. Over the reporting period, 2,350 beneficiaries were reached through partner-school programs and Saturday bootcamps. Building on foundational robotics and coding tracks, the program introduced three new modules — Drone Mastery, AI for Good, and App Inventor — to broaden learning pathways and align training with real-world applications and local community needs.

This report summarizes program objectives, delivery modalities, curricula, participant demographics, measurable outcomes, partnerships, resource mobilization, operational challenges, and recommendations for expansion and sustainability. The evidence shows improved digital literacy, problem-solving ability, collaboration, and increased interest in STEM careers among participating students. To scale impact, Asustem Robotics seeks deeper institutional partnerships, diversified funding, and enhanced monitoring systems.

  1. Background and Rationale Early exposure to STEM builds technical skills, critical thinking, creativity, and confidence. Catch Them Young was launched to address limited access to practical STEM education in partner communities and to create inclusive entry points for girls and boys from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds. The program operates in two complementary delivery channels:
  • Partner schools: Integrated modules in curriculum time or as after-school clubs.
  • Saturday bootcamps: Intensive hands-on sessions for deeper project-based learning.

Recent trends in automation, AI, and drone technologies make it imperative that youth develop not only basic coding and robotics skills, but also higher-order competencies such as systems thinking, ethical use of technology, and application design. The addition of Drone Mastery, AI for Good, and App Inventor reflects these priorities.

  • Partner schools: 1,600 beneficiaries (programs embedded in 25 partner schools)
  • Saturday bootcamps: 750 beneficiaries (series of weekend sessions across 12 community hubs)

  • Age range: 8–18 years (majority between 10–16)
  • Gender: Program emphasizes gender balance; participating cohorts averaged ~48% female representation
  • Socioeconomic background: Focus on underserved communities; approximately 60% from low-income households

  • Ongoing funding for consumables and equipment maintenance requires diversified funding streams. Mitigation: Pursuing corporate partnerships, grants, and cost-recovery mechanisms (e.g., nominal bootcamp fees with scholarships)
  1. Financial Overview (Summary)
  • Major cost categories: Trainer stipends, equipment procurement and maintenance, transport and logistics for mobile labs, consumables, and administrative costs.
  • Cost efficiencies achieved through in-kind donations and volunteer contributions; unit cost per beneficiary decreased as partnerships scaled.
  • For sustainable expansion, estimated incremental funding required to reach an additional 1,500 beneficiaries over the next year includes capital for 10 mobile labs, additional trainers, and curriculum development. Detailed budgets and proposals are available on request.
