Dear DAKTARI lovers,
Listen to that great news: Our building project is finally done after months and months of work!! You have been a wonderful support for us and thanks to your involvement in our cause we developed major building facilities that now help DAKTARI to be sustainable.
Let me recap the wonderful work we have achieved together: the building of 1 office extension to work more efficiently, 2 ablutions blocks for the staff and children and, our last and final addition, 3 cement tented platform to put tents on to house the volunteers. The volunteers can now enjoy the perfect bush life experience while they educate the children about environment and take care of the injured animals. Check out the pictures! Maybe you would also like to join us in South Africa and see the wonderful result of your participation? J
Once again, I would like to say a huge and warm thank you for your great support and let you know that it is now time for us to close the project Build4DAKTARI.
I am looking forward to hearing from you again soon, our others projects are still open if your generosity wants to help us again:
- To educate over 300 underprivileged children
- To provide food and care for ALL our animals
THANK YOU!!

Dear GlobalGiving Donors,
Some of you know us personally but others have not had the opportunity to meet us yet.
We, Ian and I (Michele), are the co-founders on site of DAKTARI Bush School & Wildlife Orphanage.
Yesterday, 31st of December, I went again through the list of our donors to check that we did not forget to thank anyone.
The list was long and I realised how many people you are, helping and trusting us. Being touched about it, I had to take time and think about each of you all!
I want you to understand that behind the description of the project on GlobalGiving, there are also two people with passion for the environment and love for our community. We, and our team, are the ones doing the work and making the impact on your behalf. We deeply thank you for choosing DAKTARI as a beneficiary.
Your donation (s) have been very important to us in 2014 and this is why I finished the year thinking about each and every one of you.
When I woke up this morning, believe it or not, I was thinking of you again. Although I wanted to stay in bed, I needed to share my feelings with you and write my gratitude. It is important to explain in simple words how meaningful you are to us. Basically, you kicked me out of bed!!!!
Thank you for being who you are. Your generous support makes it possible for our organisation to exist and to make the community a great place to live.
Remember that to us your donation is much more than a click, and we are looking forward to your support in 2015.
All the best to you, very dear donors.
Thank you.
Dear Donors,
Another great year is coming to an end and all the animals and everyone at DAKTARI wish you a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year for 2015!!
No words can describe how grateful we are for your help and support. We could not run this Bush School & Wildlife Orphange without you! All these fabulous moments, bush adventures, joy, animals rescued and released, new babies, children's stories, laughs, teaching program... This is thanks to your participation towards a better world.
THANK YOU for being here, involved with DAKTARI and we hope to continue hearing from you Next Year :)
The DAKTARI Team,
Children, Animals, Volunteers, Staff, Ian and Michele.

Dear donors,
I would like to tell you how grateful all the DAKTARI Team is for your precious support toward our building project. This is really heart warming to see that we can count on the support of people like you for our development.
Your donations helped to build new facilities, by providing the material needed. Indeed, you already know through our last report that the office extension is done and Michele, Ian and the volunteers really appreciate this new space to work in the office. "We have more place to work efficiently and this is also more quiet because when Michele is on the phone or wants to make a meeting, she has her own working space... And a door!! (Laugh) So this is better for the concentration" says Nathalie, the Fundraising Volunteer.
Then, we are so happy that the 2 new ablution blocks are ready to use!! The staff are really thankful with their new clean ablution in their village and the volunteers and the children are also very satisfied by their block. "This is a big change compared to the previous ablution. I am very happy because before we had just 1 shower and 1 toilet for 8, now we have 3 of them! This is very clean and lovely because the volunteers painted the exterior! Thank you so much!" says Onica, Staff member at DAKTARI.
Finally, last but not the least, remember that our last step is the building of 3 tented platform to house the volunteers who stay at DAKTARI for 3 months and who want more privacy. This stage is still in progress. Indeed, 1 tented platform has been built and the result is very good! This is the real bush experience that the volunteers can live, with the view looking out onto the African landscape (see the pictures).
We now need to wait to finish our building project and build the other 2 tented platform. Indeed, we don't have the funds to buy the materials needed and we are still waiting for generous donations, like the ones we kindly received from you. Do you want to continue your involvement in our project and help us to finish it? Talk to your friends, your loved one and your family about our cause, be proud of your commitment and inspire them to be involved as well. You know your friends and family best, so use your own words and tools to spread the word, tell them why you chose our project and what it means to you. It will be such a great help for us!!

Dear BUILD4DAKTARI supporter,
It is a great privilege to present to you our first report on the developments made towards building new facilities for underprivileged children at DAKTARI.
We are so happy to inform you that, thanks to your valuable and irreplaceable support, we have purchased our first batch of building materials. All of this great work done would not be possible without you!! Our building project is still in progress but here are the exciting developments we have already accomplished toward achieving our goals:
It will provide a healthy and sanitized facility that will be utilized. Project Manager Ian Merrifiled did a fantastic job with managing resources to make this progress possible. "We are proud of the work people have done and are extremely satisfied to present this evolution of the project".
This will give the organizers a free space to work from and ensure that the project is run at optimum level. This will also allow us to have more long term volunteers join our project and make the entire operation more effective and sustainable. DAKTARI CEO, Michele Merrifiled, expressed her delight in the developments of the project and had this to say to all donors and everyone who has supported this development "On behalf of everyone at DAKTARI, we express our utmost gratitude to every kind soul out there that has been able to help us in whatever way possible, without your support we would not be able to have such an amazing impact on the lives of these underprivileged children and wild animals. Your generosity means the world to us!"
"Many hands make light work"...
This project is the achievement of many little helping hands. It all starts with YOUR kind donations to purchase the materials, then the building team and now our lovely volunteers have painted the white walls of the office full of beautiful colours.
Including BUCO Hardware, a local business, that is a partner and supplier that has been assisting us with materials so that we can accomplish our goal. We applaud them for their generosity, kindness and hard work. Account Manager, Martihnus Heynie, stated, " We at BUCO are so happy to lend a supporting hand to the people that need it most. In this case it is the underprivileged children and wild animals from DAKTARI. Working together with the staff at DAKTARI made this fantastic relationship possible, we know that we can have a lasting impact on the lives of these children who will one day be our future leaders."
Click here and read our Newsletter!! You will find out all the juicy stories of what has been happening at DAKTARI these last months!
Thank you very much for your interest and support in our project. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, comments or ideas.
