DAKTARI is a bush school and a wildlife orphanage. Our mission is to educate local underprivileged children to care for their environment. Because DAKTARI is developing, we need: -To extend the office. We require more space to accommodate the volunteers who are working to develop our bush school and community projects. -To build 2 ablution blocks, 1 for the children and another for our 8 dedicated local staff. -To build 3 cement platforms on which to install tents that will house volunteers.
Since its creation in 2006, DAKTARI has developed lots of projects to support the education of the local underprivileged children, to create business in the local area and to promote the protection of the environment and the animals. To continue our impact on the community, DAKTARI requires motivated volunteers who come to work on marketing, fundraising and our outreach programme. It is necessary to build these new facilities to accommodate the volunteers, the staff and the children.
This Build4DAKTARI campaign will allow us to provide new living and working spaces for the volunteers and staff living at DAKTARI, as well as toilet/washing facilities for the children visiting us each week. These extended facilities will allow us to expand our work, making a greater impact and improving the future prospects of these children and their local community. All we need are the funds to buy the building materials.
Our goal is to provide more than 400 children each year with a week of environmental education, inspiring them to care for their precious heritage, encouraging them to work hard at school and helping them to find employment within eco-tourism. We are also working on various community projects to enrich the local area with job opportunities. Only by building these new facilities can we continue to welcome more volunteers in order to expand our work and make a greater impact in our community.
