We partner with urban farms to provide water solutions to aid in agricultural growth, community development, and resource management. We're building a water catchment system for irrigation and produce washing for Nurturing Our Seeds, a nonprofit farm in Detroit. The wash station will be a shared space for a local Black farmer collective to wash and pack their produce to more effectively provide food to their communities. This project will support this amazing local partner in more ways than one!
Nurturing Our Seeds is a nonprofit farm in Detroit. They use their land to grow food for their community and as an educational agricultural center, however they have water access issues. Their plots are separated by existing infrastructure causing significant obstacles for irrigation. They're also organizing a Black farmer collective to grow food to increase their community impact, but this collective doesn't have reliable access to clean water, meaning they have no place to wash their produce.
Our system will provide water catchment and irrigation to land that has no reliable water access as well as a wash station for a collective of farmers who don't have clean water to wash and pack their produce for distribution. Our system will allow for greater community impact by saving farmers time and money and allowing them to efficiently produce more food to feed their community members.
The potential long-term impact of this project is two-fold. It will allow Nurturing Our Seeds to give time and resources to other important aspects of their farm and allow for more growing on land that will now have reliable water access. This project will also aid a collective of farmers in producing more food and efficiently distributing it more effectively to their communities. This project will increase food access and security, create education surrounding urban farming and food, and unity.
