We are pleased to share an update on the continued development and use of the Tumaini Games and Sports Field, which has become an increasingly important asset for recreation, community gatherings, and institutional events.
Following the groundwork completed earlier in the year, the grass planted on the field has grown very well and is now well established. The raised and murram-stabilized surface has proven effective, with the field remaining firm and usable despite seasonal rains. This has significantly improved safety and usability for both children and adults.
A major milestone was achieved in December when Tumaini held its 3rd Graduation Ceremony on the field for the first time, celebrating 82 graduands. This event clearly demonstrated the importance of the field not only as a sports facility, but also as a central space for institutional events, celebrations, and community gatherings. Hosting the graduation outdoors provided ample space, dignity, and visibility, reinforcing the field’s value to Tumaini’s programs and identity.
In addition to events, the field continues to serve its intended recreational purpose. We plan to officially begin regular soccer activities in January, when Tumaini reopens, allowing young mothers, youth, and children to actively use the space for sports, physical fitness, and teamwork.
In partnership with the Kenya Forest Department, boundary fence trees and fruit trees continue to be nurtured, contributing to environmental sustainability and long-term shade and food security.
Looking ahead, with additional funding, we still aim to install a marked soccer pitch and outdoor gym facilities. These enhancements will further support physical health, mental well-being, and social cohesion among the young mothers, children, and the wider Tumaini community.
We remain deeply grateful for your continued support, which has enabled this field to evolve from an idea into a functional, meaningful space for play, celebration, and hope.
