Support Vulnerable Women and Children in Need

Our journey of compassion and hope, made possible by your unwavering support through the GlobalGiving initiative, has once again touched the lives of those in the most remote corners of Nigeria. Today, we are moved to share not only our recent visit to Rakama Community in Bauchi State but also the extraordinary story of a woman whose resilience and courage inspire us all a story that underscores the profound impact of your generosity.

A Journey of Love and Humanity 

The remote Rakama Community, nestled across rugged valleys more than 110 kilometers from Bauchi city, remains one of the hardest-to-reach places. Yet, thanks to your support, we traversed those challenging terrains, bringing much-needed aid and hope to vulnerable residents, including a woman whose life story is a beacon of resilience amidst adversity.

The Unfolding Story of Courage and Hope 

Recently, we tested a woman for TB and HIV as part of our outreach; she was found positive. Recognizing the urgency of her situation, we promptly took her to the hospital, where she courageously delivered triplets. Tragically, she lost one of her precious babies’ shortly after birth a devastating blow that only compounded her suffering.

Adding to her hardship, her husband has abandoned her, possibly due to her diagnoses, leaving her to face the overwhelming challenges of motherhood and health alone. Her story is a poignant reminder of how illnesses often deepen vulnerabilities and societal stigmas, leaving families broken and women abandoned.

This critical support made possible through the $344 USD raised from our GlobalGiving community enabled us to buy her food items, and provide her to access essential medical care as well as provided her with the immediate support she needed during this heart-breaking time. Your compassion transformed her pain into a spark of hope and strength.

A Recent Heartbreaking Update 

During our recent visit, we discovered that this brave woman has now lost her other baby, leaving her with only her surviving triplet. Her emotional pain and loneliness are profound, and her situation calls for urgent, ongoing support—both medical and psychosocial.

I am writing to share a pressing issue that weighs heavily on our hearts and to seek your support or collaboration in amplifying our efforts. In the remote corners of Bauchi State, Nigeria, accessing healthcare is not just a challenge—it’s a battle for survival. Families in these underserved communities face impossible choices every day. With the nearest health facility over 30 kilometers away, they are forced to walk for hours under the scorching sun, carrying sick children in their arms, just to seek basic medical care. Tragically, for too many, the journey is never completed, and preventable illnesses claim lives before help can arrive.

We witness the heartbreak daily: mothers mourning the loss of children who could have been saved with timely immunizations; the silent spread of diseases like tuberculosis (TB), malaria, and viral hepatitis due to the lack of timely diagnosis and treatment; hope slipping away in places that the healthcare system has yet to reach. But it doesn’t have to be this way.

Our dedicated team on active TB case finding is already on the ground, working tirelessly to find and treat active TB cases in the State. We have seen the difference healthcare can make, but we need to do more. That is why we are launching an ambitious initiative to bring healthcare directly to these hard-to-reach communities. We envision a future where no one is too far away to receive lifesaving care.

This initiative will save lives—plain and simple. Children will receive the immunizations they need to thrive. TB, malaria, and viral hepatitis cases will be detected early, giving patients a fighting chance. Emergencies will no longer end in tragedy simply because help was too far away. Your consideration of this appeal will bring hope and healing to thousands of people in these underserved communities.
